I'm reading business all over this, but would this actually suffice for a home NAS? Something always running low powered in the background... As it sits in currently using my beast of a desktop for my home server, but would love something smaller and way more power efficient. any input to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated..

It depends on what kind of server services you are running. If it serves only as disk storage for media/backup. 220MB/s R/W is better than needed as you are unlikely to have high concurrency at home 😀 If you are running web/streaming then maybe DLNA server. If this NAS works as host via USB 3.0, then you can use router with USB 3.0 "HDD" feature to use this NAS, and then use UTP connection for "direct" communication. Considering that there is list of unusual features, you should do same. Make list of things which you use now. Then Make list of nice to have new features. And you can compare what device/combination of devices can do it. As for Power efficiency. Consider that you have to buy that new power efficient device. Calculate current cost of ownership and ROI for this new device. Maybe you do not intend to keep that new device for as long as it would take to pay for its cost. Maybe you do not expect it to live long enough to pay for itself.

@DeskStar business NAS > home NAS business NAS can be used for many user at the same time, so spec wise they are much better for home NAS, most using it for family storage and media player so if you think to use as media-player mainly, then check if the NAS can playback 4k i dont think many concern about transfer-speed much also probably u want more drive-bay rather than performance, like 4-bay or more... that way you can keep using ur nas, without needed getting another one just because u need storage space and the NAS reach the capacity limit another things is the CPU, there is intel based and arm based most pick intel simply because more add-on/package for intel rather than newly arm based intel based nas usually abit more expensive (mid to high-end model) than arm (entry-mid) so if you just need for simple storage without needed various function like VM etc., then getting arm based will save u $
