These Dual core routers become a throughput bottleneck under high switching load.

Care to elaborate? I want to know. Pure tech curiosity. Networking gear is interesting.

the feature set in the unit is a cpu hog, and if you turn on some of the aiprotection feature set you lose the ability to use CTF, so the CPU gets hit even harder. this will make a good media bridge but don't expect wonders from it as the main router.

generally prefer enterprise type routers these days in my rack cabinet, but looks ok for a low throughput line. Iv recently gone wifi 6 at home using U6 Lite AP's

I thought they fix the issue of that stuff disabling CTF? Though I never new AI protect was that have on cpu, it might explain why my asus AC66U could not push more then 100mbit with QoS on cause that AI Protect was always on?? QOS really only thing that matter seeing generally the 1 thing actual helps with buffer bloat, and if have no QoS bufferbloat is terrible. Every router I had that had QoS and had it enabled reduced buffer bloat inconsequential level, but ever router I had that didnt have QoS it was pretty bad. I actual be more curious how many cores and how fast of cores I would need to keep QoS and still the 500mbit I can get or what I would need for 1gbit connection, as i could never really get answer to that over at SNBforums.

ips/ids would have an increased strain on the CPU and lower it's throughput capability yes.

I have an ac66u_b1 that does 350 with everything enabled. Maybe the wireless hardware on that ac66u is the limiting factor. You could check the cpu and ram usage from the app or in the web gui to see if its maxing out.

That the dual core revisions I have original AC66U at other house that single 600mhz core, it maxed out at 100mbit give or take with QOS and AIprotect on if i disable QoS it would happily push 200-300mbit, I didnt know AI protect reduced it more though

Do you guys run the official firmware or merlin ?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/56/56686.jpg
I run Merlin on 66U I have, but been while since i actual managed that router 2~3 years. I Do run Merlin when I use the Asus routers

Merlin on both a AX58U and AC66U_B1 (in AiMesh). Oh and the comparison of the AC66U to the AC66U_B1 doesn't work as the B1 is pretty much a AC68U, and in fact uses the 68U firmware and not the 66U (internally it is a 68U, laying down instead of standing up).

again the B1 revisons is dual core the original AC66U is single core, they 2 dont have same cpu power

Quad core cheapo huawei will eat this?

I've gone WiFi6 too, got a cheap D-Link WiFi6 router which I use for my main rig (X-570 Aorus Xtreme WiFi6) as well as for my Z Fold 6 which is supposed to have WiFi6 connectivity as well.

I'll stay on Wi-fi 5 (AC) until second revision of Wi-fi 6 (AX). Almost all my devices are cable connected, so no pressure.

Im on AC also, pushing 200mb 2 walls. Ping is close to perfect, tho i have occasional spike. Don't know if to jump wifi 6 bandwagon or wait more. I would also need wifi 6 pcie card for PC ( expensive?)
