Let's just get this out of the way: VA Panel? No buy. P.S. My IPS monitor doesn't have any glow No G-sync? No buy. Why don't we have OLED monitors yet!?!?! 8-bit panel? No buy. That projected logo is terrible This is to expensive. It should be no more than (what poster can afford) I think that should cover the first two pages of complaining posts. 🙂 I'm excited to see more big screens. I picked up a 32" earlier this year, and I'm already down for a 42" once the GPU market can run new games at higher refresh rates without choking.

It has FreeSync so it works with Nvidia cards as well now that Nvidia supports it (all it takes in one tick in the box in NVCP for non certfied monitors) Good VA panels are good. The contrast is awesome for games and movies and helps a lot with HDR. IPS has nice colours but the washed out blacks is an issue for dark scenes. IPS panels have a degree of IPS glow no matter what. It should be 8bit + dithering or native 10 bit because it's an HDR requirement. The logo can be turned off. It's an awesome solution for those who look for large screen to connect both PC and console. It's expensive and Philips offers a similar alternative which is much cheaper with the only negative of less ports and a glossy screen surface.

I've been waiting for a 40-43" 4k display with VRR like this. I'll definitely consider grabbing one when I see it on sale. Waiting for reviews, though, hopefully it won't have any dithering-related artifacts like the Philips screen does so I can use it for work as well as gaming.

It’s a decent monitor but there is a similar one coming out from Acer very soon which is almost identical in spec except it has 1000 nits so it’s slightly better than the Asus

To me VA is almost as bad as TN. Not going to buy any VA or TN panel monitors or TVs. Modern IPS is by far the best compromise in my opinion.

To me IPS is the panel that makes STALKER, Fear and any games with dark night unplayable.

TN only for me, im saving for the PG258Q, will do the job for what i need 🙂

It depends on how far back you sit with a VA panel. If you're sitting close to a VA panel, you will notice the conal black level effect where the center of your focus on the screen will be the darkest and the corners/edges will be the brightest. If you sit far away, the uniformity is much better.

on PC its VA only, a TV, OLED Only. So far only VA is the closet thing to OLED on PC. IPS is just Orange/Gray puke that lacks dark colors and for HDR you need as dark as possible. For good HDR #1 OLED, #2 VA

Well, i have the RU7100 43" model which i believe it uses a very similar panel to this one. Not missing my Dell 2715Q which is IPS. I think 40" would be better to use as a monitor, the samsung VA panel is pretty good, it's far better than a 32" 4k LG VA monitor that a i bought a while ago. The big improvement for me was the pixel size which definitly looks awesome for editing photos, better than my IPS. For some reason this TV causes much less eye strain even though is much bigger. putting the backlight to 0 really helps on low light enviroments too, on my dell the backlight at 0 still was pretty bright. Depending on the distance you are from the screen you can notice the VA problem of bad viewing angle, but really it's a non issue for me, this display is pretty good. i'm having a blast playing games at 4k and 5k, it's VERY immersive, 4k on a 27" is really not worth it. HDR on my TV is very poor and it's an 8 bit display with dithering and has no dimming nor 120hz and freesync. So if you have the money i can only imagine that this asus monitor will be spectacular, btw using an radeon card with FS2 use DSC, seems most people forget about DSC.

VA is way better then TN except in response time, IPS is a flat no go for me and alot people I know, the blacks are utter trash and the response times questionable at best. what good is the great color repo if it blurs horrible compared to other 2? and it blacks are usal the worse out the bunch especial the black (lack of black) uniformity. IPS/TN/VA they all need to go the way dodo bird, oled actual need to be used or that mircoled or what that is that people where saying is like oled. Hell i think fixed resolution panels in general need to go too. I dont see any thing happen any time soon. As for the monitor if it priced half that I would buy that, and get rid of that 55tcl S517 I have Philips Momentum 436M6VBPAB not sure where hilbert got that $549 euro which like $600usd price cause amazon and bestbuy both list as $999usd

Awesome. At first I thought it needs HDMI 2.1 to work at full bandwidth... but as a monitor with DP 1.4, no need.

Were you aware that literally every top-end and even mid-ranged LCD television is a VA panel?

So 4k 10bit/60hz or 4k 8bit/120hz, that is false edvertising by asus.

It's not a good look I admit, though with only DisplayHDR 600 and no FALD it's not like this display were ever going to do HDR anyway. Sadly it's been reduced to a meaningless buzzword in PC space, to the point that anyone actually caring about HDR have to do pretty extensive research to find the few displays that actually do it right. But before I go too far down that particular rabbit hole, perhaps you had a different use case in mind for the wide gamut? I admit HDR gaming was what jumped immediately to mind on my end.

They both 8Bit+FRC

FALD could be nice and good for HDR but then the price rises somewhere else too. Is this capable to use freesync via HDMI with Xbox one X ? 4k + HDR + freesync on Xbox one X ? And how about PC via DP, 4k + 120Hz + HDR + freesync in same input?

G-Sync giving huge extra cost ($100 between ASUS PG279Q and MG279Q) for a similar monitor -> no buy.
