G-Sync giving huge extra cost for a similar monitor -> no buy.
I usually only see that one when it's a G-Sync monitor: "Lulz $200 nGreedia tax!!!1!" We are all so damn spoiled...

Gsync monitors and freesync ones are not the same. You really get what you pay for, if you know about IQ.

So this is a $500 TV that they rebrand as "gaming monitor" and then more than double its price?

yeah, anything above 500 ill rather pay about 1K and get something like the 55X95G. which allows for nice upscaling for stuff that needs too much gpu power, with other processing turned off, input lag isnt really an issue. outside that it can also be used to watch/stream tv...

I wonder how MicroLED will do. That's gonna be my next purchase.
[youtube=ShLwzxwaYAg] This, is a reasonable example of how the tech is gonna look.

Give us a link to a 500$ tv with 4k, DP 120hz input and freesync 🙂

There's plenty of 4K TVs under $500. No 120Hz and no freesync, but these don't cost much (certainly not $700 on top.) This is just an example where just sticking a "gaming" logo to a product means you can double its price.

Then it's not a 500$ tv... You're argument died.

You take things too literally.

I wanna start a band called Tale's of Apostrophe. You'll be the drummer.

TVs are mass produced + competition is so fierce they've been able to keep costs low. This monitor is a niche product, aside from the different electronics that enable it to do 120hz + added DP 1.4 inputs that no TV has, it would be pretty dumb of Asus not to ask for a premium for it.

Pretty much but it does have 4K 120hz with Free-sync 2 and Displayport as well as HDMI 2.0. Most 4K TV's are stuck at 60hz with no displayports. (Only LG Nanocell and OLED's have HDMI 2.1 this year). What i do find pretty hilarious though, is that Asus just announced an extremely similar model monitor at Gamescom about an hour ago. The ROG Strix XG43UQ (not to be mistaken for the XG438Q lower model in this thread). The XG43UQ has the same specs except for it uses DSC and has 1000 nits peak brightness for proper HDR and does 144hz.
