yeah, anything above 500 ill rather pay about 1K and get something like the 55X95G.
which allows for nice upscaling for stuff that needs too much gpu power, with other processing turned off, input lag isnt really an issue.
outside that it can also be used to watch/stream tv...

TVs are mass produced + competition is so fierce they've been able to keep costs low. This monitor is a niche product, aside from the different electronics that enable it to do 120hz + added DP 1.4 inputs that no TV has, it would be pretty dumb of Asus not to ask for a premium for it.
