That Ares is thing of beauty. I'm sure it will have price tag to match...

that's fantastic! Hilbert, you have got to review the ROG Maximus VII Formula, the ROG Swift PG278Q gaming monitor and the ROG Ares III.

about GX500 "Gaming on the go has never looked this sharp." except a 860m is waaaaaaay to weak to even consider about doing so.

Yeah too weak for gaming @ 4K but I'd take that laptop/formfactor anyday of the week for work usage and stuff. Hopefully Microsoft fixes DPI Scaling somehow in Windows 8/9.

1440p @144Hz + GSync, now that I can call upgrade. Hope screen has decent color representation without yellow tint.

Love that Ares iii. Would be grey for smaller systems. Not sure I'll love the price tag though!

That would be great, however this particular monitor is TN. Perhaps this panel is good enough in terms of general comfort and color reproduction. I'd have to see how good colors are, what eye fatigue it causes, and what's the overall lag. The gtg times are no longer interesting. Also, G-Sync is a really useful feature to have, especially when you go beyond FullHD and risk <60fps drops.

I'm pretty much sure it will be enough for not-so-hardcore gaming. With G-Sync you only have to stay constantly above 30fps in contrast to "conventional monitors" where dropping <60 adds a lot of jitter with vsync and in general makes playing unpleasant. Of course, keeping it at 144Hz and full resolution won't be an easy task. Even if you forget about possibility of being CPU-bound, 2560x1440@144Hz is 530Mpix/s (442 with 120Hz, but only 110 at 30Hz). Just to compare - FullHd at 60/120/144Hz would be 124/249/299Mpix/s respectively. Effectively, keeping fluid framerate @ Swift would be a little easier than doing so at 60Hz FullHd monitor, but to get max of it, you need >4x more power. You could eventually crank down details and/or resolution. Also, I'm not sure how good SLI system would be with G-Sync monitor. There's a real risk of jitter, and SLI system while improving the number of frames per second, does not really help with frame delay so much.
