Bring on your oven mittens because this thing probably runs hot 😀

Price is wayyyyyy too costly for my wallet, plus it won't have full Valve support behind it from updates, to UI specific features like steam deck community controller schemes at the touch of a button, a thing now i just take for granted when gaming now, and yes that has made me even very lazy. Lol

Everyone "going at the Steam Deck" needs to understand that there's no way to compete with a computer that has console functionality and tweaking on top. The Deck is not good because of its hardware (although its controller is better than anything else out there by a mile), but because of the software.

Despite being someone who games exclusively on Linux, I actually (and begrudgingly) disagree; seems like a lot of Deck owners are replacing it with Windows, and that more would do so if the drivers were fully functional (not sure if that's been fixed by now). You are right that software is a critical part of the platform, but Steam runs on Windows and you can always have it run in Big Picture Mode at startup. That way, you don't have to care what the OS is, but at least you'll have more game compatibility. The Deck has very good specs for a very good price. Their custom SoC helped tremendously with what they achieved.

Bring more power to something you can just throw in a small bag and not worry about its weight ! As long as the device has a HDMI output and can be connected to a TV, everything's good ! So many times in the past, when I travelled, I wished I had a computer with me, but even the laptop weight was too much. Thanks airlines ... 😡

Last week I was wondering if a Steam Deck successor was going to be introduced later in the year...

This just makes me excited for whatever Valve has next, they obviously aren't going to be making the same spec deck forever... if asus is making something with new chips then obviously Valve is going to be doing the same. That said, this asus thing is kinda neat, it being able to connect to an external gpu is quite hilarious though.

I doubt you will see a Steam deck 2 until about 2025 or later as the present one does what it says on the tin, and has more that can be sqeezed out of it with future updates.....but i am still stunned i am playing my windows steam account games on Steam OS as if Steam OS was not there. Lol

The actual advice I see around is telling people NOT to do that, as it disables a ton of features (like suspending games, per game clocks and screen profiles), messing up the overlay and power savings. If anything, because of the Deck, I think that Valve will inevitably launch their console, which would be a killer move in the PC space, the way pricing is going.
