One thing I have gotten used to with Asus products over the years is that there is always one small thing wrong with them..... but this, well, not so small.

I used Asus motherboards for over 20 years before switching to Msi at the end of 2020 and never had an issue but this does not sound good.

Well it's an Intel platform so no wonder that it happens, since it needs twice the power for the same performance as its counterpart lol

atleast they enact the expected recall and don't just bury their heads ala some other vendors.

I wonder what happened to the employee who loaded the capacitors into the assembly machine 180 degrees incorrectly. He/she probably wasn't let go with a generous golden handshake.

Actually, is this not just an official recall for the issues detected in December. Edit: It is, We have recently received incident reports regarding the ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard. In our ongoing investigation, we have identified a potential reversed memory capacitor issue in the production process from one of the production lines that may cause debug error code 53, no post, or motherboard components damage. The issue potentially affects units manufactured in 2021 with the part number 90MB18E0-MVAAY0 and Serial number starting with MA, MB, and MC.

A (memory) capacitor on the motherboard was installed in a reverse position which can lead to a short circuit, overheating or melting, posing fire and burn hazards.
but yeah blame intel as if every lga1700 cpu was 250w and asus actually could assemble their overpriced boards correctly.

And did it for the best part of a whole year apparently!

Making a product that is a fire hazard is not not something they can hide from. I would not give them a pat on the back for doing what is required.

See guys, this is the problem of buying cheap hardware instead of high end hardware. Oh, wait a minute... 😕

Asus has spent tens of millions of dollars automating their factories to the highest level in the business... but this is 100% human error, whether programming the sorter/feeder or replacing the magazine of capacitors. this will hurt, and hurt badly because their advertising/marketing turned that cost into a premium. it's "happy hour" @ the competition and the drinks are on their house.

Rock Solid. Pun aside I have used Asus ever since Abit went to heaven/hell and I wouldn't touch a Gigafire board.

Em what if this causes PC damage like not just the mobo dies but it kills other things also. If this thing popped it could take down more things. If it happened to you would you then trust the PSU and other components in that system.

I wouldn't like to be the guy that designed that board at Asus. 😱

Asus quality at its best right here! As I've warned in the past, Asus is not the company it was 10 years ago. I'll stay away from Asus products for a long time now.

To be fair, all manufacturers have had their fair share of PR disasters and tarnished reputations.

hahahaha, you haven't met gigabyte.

Y'all can hate on Gigabyte all you like but it's horses for courses. Touch wood i've never had a Gigabyte product fail on me and i've used them for a long time now. Why did i switch to Gigabyte? because the Asus mobo i had long ago died on me right in the middle of an important WoW Raid ^^ Now i have a Gigabyte 3090 and a X570 Master mobo. 0 issues.

Actually, check the date on their Recall announcement. 2021/12/29. https://www.asus.com/us/news/u5866wtjwmbj1fue/ I thought this had already been dealt with at the beginning of the year. I'm genuinely puzzled and curious as to why this old issue has been resurrected. My Hero's serial checked out as fine but this article had me sweating bullets for a bit. 🙂
