Nothing has happened? It's going to cost that in the USA. In Europe stuff is always more expensive for many reasons, like segmented market, higher taxes and import tariffs. I'm sure you have noticed that over the years.

i dont know about Displayport in that matter... but you can always use the HDMI port and this I use it on my Media PC which only has a HDMI out and I put the output on a 32' TFT but as already stated. the problem really ONLY affects people without either displayport OR hdmi port which is a very very small group. and AIB cards will feature DVI... so... don't get the commotion. especially from people who dont even in the slightest appear to have interest in this card.

i was thinking about a 480 8gb on overclockers u.k coz gtx 970 has low vram 3.5gb now RX 480 is £220 for stock blower coooler which i dont like the aftermarket asus strix ...etc i can see being £240-£250 which is ok but amd drivers are an issue for me and i could not refuse the deal on a jetstream 980ti for £359 so i got it today get it tomorrow 980ti do me for next 12 months

which issue exactly did you have with the last 14 releases (16.1.1 to 16.6.2) of amd drivers?

You know they do make DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI-D Active Adapter (VisionTek 900639) which good for up to 100Hz for now in tell you get a better newer Monitor that has DisplayPort Input or spent over $100 for StarTech DP2DVID2 which support 144Hz so you that price you paid when jump gun on latest tech from a few years back

now 980ti is £200 cheaper than is was last month its a lot of power for the money i had to pull the trigger

It's kind of foolish to spend 100$ for an active conversion that may cause issues. Unfortunately, it makes more sense to just turn to the dark side and buy from nvidia.

i used have a r9 290 used get freezes and crashes , the nvidia drivers you can remove all the bloatware like 3dvision.shadowplay etc and they still work perfect, a dude done a post on this website how to do it , also theres nvidia inspetor which can help a lot on badly optimized games , amd used have radeon pro which not as good as inspector, im not a fanboy or anything but nvidia has got most reliable and easiest to use drivers , and now 980ti is £200 cheaper than is was last month its a lot of power for the money i had to pull the trigger

Buy what from Nvidia? There's nothing to buy if you want the new architecture. By the time 1060 hits the market, the 480 cards from AMD partners ought to be on the market as well. Those will have a DVI connector, no doubt.

If you need dual link dvi, it makes a lot more sense to buy a used gtx 970/980 or even a new gtx 1070 than to fork out 240+100$ for a 480 and an active converter. Honestly, nvidia is really an awful company as their market strategy is against the customers best interests. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to do what makes better sense.
