I'm sort of disliking AMD's naming schemes on the CPU parts, I'm not sure what they're reasoning is. Is it to have same sort of name as Intel to make it easier to spot the same range AMD part from their stack(like the ryzen 3-7 for intels i3-i7 and now x399 to x299) or is it just to create confusion in new buyers like x399 is a bigger number than x299 so it's better(wether or not its true or not). I would of rather liked AMD to use/think of their own naming scheme. Edit: this isn't any fanboy stuff towards Intel. If I would need a new system right now I would definitely be buying Ryzen 7 1700

To be fair, this has been AMDs chipset naming for quite some time. I'm not saying they aren't copying what Intels doing in terms of naming to some degree, but the 3 digit numbers is not new from AMD. Their previous chipsets were chipsets such as: 480x 580x (skip 600, unless you count the mobile chipsets, in which M690) 740 770 780G 785G 790GX 890FX 970 990x And there's a lot of chipsets inbetween those, and that list spans 2006-2011 Then they started over with the XX chipsets(or you could say the 0xx chipset, but no company has ever started out with 0 before a model number, remember ATI when they went back to XXXX naming? the first set started out a x850 etc., then the next year it went to x1800, 2900, etc.), such as: A55T A77E And a few inbetween, 2012-2014 Then....they stopped, as we all know, for awhile. Skipped 2015-2016, or, in other words, skipped: 1xx and 2xx and are now at 3xx

A mini ITX board with a TR4 socket would just be.... The socket and power connector on a board with no room for anything else 🤓 :P

1st fitting VRMs + 2x 4 ram slots is hard. Then wasting all those PCI lanes and space for multiple M.2. Basically ripping away most of the platform benefits. It makes as much sense as those lower x299 chips from intel, which limit platform to dual channel and 16PCIe lanes.

You might be able to squeeze three PCIe x4 M2 sockets on the rear, and with only 4 memory slots, it might just make it. I would love one, but I don't think its a priority for any of the board makers....

8+4pin cpu design by looks of it? 8pin is in an odd place, got worried for a second when i only saw the 4pin above the CPU. Hopefully these boards are better tested than their X299 counterparts from intel, they look very similar with the VRM heat sinks which might be a worry Has there ever been a bigger CPU socket btw? i cannot think of anything of the top of my head, the damn thing is massive XD

Micro ATX is the smallest form factor we could reasonably expect.

I didn't even think about that lol. Man though just think of the cooling you would need for it though! You basically need a case that is apart of the heatsink!

Don't forget that TR4 socket is nearly twice the size of S2066.... I highly doubt even ASrock is going to try and fit that on a mITX. :banana:

Even if they found a way to make it fit, they'd probably have to use SODIMMS. I don't think anyone will try, but if anyone did, ASRock are the ones most likely.

I mean there has been some boards out there with a daughter board that houses the daughter board. Could possibly do the same with the VRMs, memory, or ports even.

What a massive socket! I have to admit, ASRock (building around it) made some great looking motherboards.
