Looking forward to the day i actually have an internet connection to make use of these, though i am sure by then they will already be on motherboards 🙁

Would be nice but likely greater than 1Gbps internet in the US is a ways off. However see the article 2 down from this one "QNAP Adds TVS-882ST3 8-Bay 2.5-inch Thunderbolt 3 NAS" that NAS would be a perfect home use case for backups / movie streaming or a small office that cant afford real servers.

This has nothing to do with your internet speed, its for data transfer within a LAN.

@Hilbert : In the text you state that "both cards are based on PCIe x1 connectors" but the 10Gbps card is on a x4 Interface, as per the picture below the article. 😉

I completely disagree, I'd rather they didn't integrate these on the motherboard. It would add significant extra cost and chew up PCIe lanes for the benefit of hardly anybody. Unless you are rocking a LAN, with SSD storage and have a 10GbE switch it is entirely pointless. Only 1 in 10,000 people will find it useful and they can already just buy an add-in card.
