Because i dont want to have to deal with selling a "really" old rig in another 2-3y (i can sell for 80% of the cost of the new one right now)
and since i want additional sata/M2 ports without using add-on cards.
Plus, cpu load is already at around 30-60% (all cores), and for encoding i hope to see a perf jump as well..

$800 usd for a amd CPU?! Not gonna happen at least not In the next 5-10 years timeframe, you cannot just jump in the ring and fight against top rank fighters unless you are ranked urself.... Then you can ask for a premium payday. Amd is not a ranked fighter at this point in time meaning they gotta take whatever they can get. It's a sad reality but true Iam sorry to say.

If AMD does integrate the I/O into the CPU, it has the potential to seriously outmatch any Intel configuration on platform performance. As far as I understand, Asmedia will only be providing the physical connection interfaces (PHY), while the actual I/O controllers will reside in the CPU itself.
If true, then it will probably offer almost an order of magnitude lower latencies.
* All overclocking is done via Overdrive, you can't change any performance features at all in the BIOS (on to that next) at all.
* BIOS or UEFI is actually built into the CPU, so only AMD can update the "BIOS" or microcode. All overclocking must take place within the Operating system
* Right now it takes up to 30 minutes to clear the BIOS. If you remove the CPU and place it on another motherboard, it'll have the same settings applied as on the previous board. So debugging is a nightmare
* 6850K SKU (May not be final designation) is wait for it.... $300 roughly. That's 8 Cores and 16 Threads
* AMD's Hyper Threading is called SMU and it is ************ good. The same efficiency as Intel's HT.
* Performance is really good, be it SuperPi, Cinebench, 3DMark etc, it's FPU performance is incredibly good and easily matching that of what Intel offers.
* Current performance is staggering even though it is limited to 2133MHz (as mentioned before) and NorthBridge Frequency is limited to 2400MHz
* There will be a nigher SKU than the 6850K, but it is a higher bin so it will certainly overclock better than 6850K and that may carry a premium price, but unlikely to be double.
* There's plenty of excitement from all board vendors about the platform, so we will see how it all pans out. (Especially with the hot mess that INTEL has in store for us H2 2017, that we can leave to another thread)
* For Gaming, the CPU is neck and neck with INTEL, even at low res where CPU bound.
Welp.... if this is even close to true I know what I'm selling after Christmas.....

Wait, why the hell UEFI on CPU?? Whats the merit of it?

Interesting and bold rumour, i like it.

When something is too good to be true, well, usually it is.. :P
We are all hoping tho..

what do i lose staying with intel?
what amd cpu/board combo will cost me less than 500-550$, support ddr4 2133 @~50-60GB/s quad ram, M.2 (4x), 6(4) native sata3/usb3, (and maybe 1000Hz polling on at least 1 usb port), and performs on paar with stock 5620K?
or if same price, is faster than the intel.
those are the only two reasons why i would switch...
Zen is not an option, since i will have to sell mine by mid/end dec.

Not bad pricing. Also about the rumor about the OCing being done via OverDrive I hope that this rumor is false because didn't diehard OCers get better results via the BIOS/UEFI rather than inside of the OS plus what is AMD going to do if you have an unstable OC? To me the BIOS/UEFI handed the OC capabilities the best.

Would be cool if they do to Intel what Conroe did to AMD perf/price wise.

k. i thought you meant to wait for zen..
to clarify:
the reason im upgrading, i can sell my rig now (already 3y old) and spend a little more to be covered for another 3-5y, vs swapping stuff in the next 1-2y (without getting what i can sell for now).
performance gain on cpu doesnt matter that much to me, but having a few more sata3, an m2 and able to upgrade to 32gb ram (without "throwing out" old ones) does..
i would love to go zen, but price is most likely not gonna be cheaper vs the 5620, and too many "ifs" regarding boards/chips and their performance, so i get less wait/headache going that way.
