He actually made a good point in his first post. Some people do demand more than "just fine" performance levels. That's exactly why my HTPC has an AMD APU in it. For my needs and available budget, it gave me more than Intel's Celeron and Pentium processors could offer, graphics wise. Now, people bitch and whine about the performance of AMD's mainstream and "performance" processors. The problem is, it takes money to make "better" products. Most tech forums seem intent on pushing as many people (and as much money) away from AMD as possible. The fewer customers AMD has....the less money they have and the slower the pace of improvement.....which seems to be the sole purpose of a lot of Intel's fanboys these days.
Lmao, you speak like AMD is a charity case that needs to be supported. Why should we as consumers be responsible for their screw ups? Why does anyone even try to defend them, I mean come on now. They run their business like idiots. Its why they are worth such a pittance.

If you do not like AMD, GTHO then. 😛uke2: Your complaints will only sound like whining to me anyways. Use what you want, that is cool. But, do not come in here all high and mighty. Oh well, enjoy your new cpu/ new motherboard everytime upgrade cycle. I am pleased that AM3+ will be around for at least one more CPU by the looks of it. Oh, and my system kicks butt, both of them, tough luck if you do not like that.
I most certainly will not GTHO. the of your post is of no consequence to me as I do not value your opinion.

Tommy, I do respect you, but recently, every time there's an AMD thread, you seem to pop up and sprinkle poison all over it. Hey, I'm no saint, I act like an arrogant bast*rd most of the time, but seriously, let's grow up together. Anyway, I wouldn't say AMD are struggling like you say, sure, they're not all peachy, but at least they're outselling nvidia on the gpu front, right 😛 EDIT: Hawaii gpus in about 30 days, I'm all over that sh1t. If they release a £400 Titan with a good oc headroom like with their 79xx cards, I'll be all over that.

huh? I gave my experience with amd cpu`s and what it would take for me to buy another amd cpu in the future. and I get attacked by amd "fans" here left and right. my opinion stands. rather than call me out why dont you join in the discusion?

Do you have experience with piledriver? The discussion in here doesn't really grab me, not likely to buy an AMD apu or cpu anytime soon and I voiced my opinion about the hawaii gpus above;) Anyway, just fine is just a phrase. tbh, your 2600k is only just fine, compared to sb/ivy-e, right? Especially with HT off, you should've just bought a 2500k 🙂

I have experience with piledriver - I'm using the FX-6300 it on a white socket (AM3) board. It's not the best thing out there but it gets everything I want done in a reasonable amount of time and it's IMO the best valued x86 CPU. It's not by any means the best CPU, far from it. But in terms of price vs performance vs power consumption, it seemed to be the best choice for me.

I wasn't really asking you, but I have to agree on the price/performance aspect they're pretty good. Nothing much wrong with them.

the cpu is 2 1/2 years old. overclocked it is still a beast. I want to upgrade to IBe next year. I had my fill of quads tbh and the small bumps in performance that intel is spitting out. SB to IB to 1150 and they get away with it due to lack of competition

I'm not bashing AMD, and most people buy what they can afford, but ever since C2D launch back in 06, AMD has fallen flat, and their Phenom lineup was a disaster that couldn't hold a candle to Intel. AMD made bad business choices and mistakes and are by no means a reason for consumers to feel sorry for them and buy their products. AMD didn't capitalize on their early success and performance gains over Intel (before C2D) and they got complacent and lazy, and now they are paying for it. Myself, I've used Intel EE's since the old 478 3.4Ghz single core, and for their cost I make them last 4-5 years before I upgrade and I get my money worth out of them. Yeah, I know I never post on these forums, but I've been reading them for several years.

sure, 100% agree, that's why I'm still stuck on a 2500k, my next cpu will definitely have more cores. I'm not really looking to upgrade anytime soon though. The competition at the top isn't really there, but when it comes to value for moeny, you have to admit that AMD's cpu's aren't all that bad.

yeah, but we've seen it all before, when original Pentiums came out, then AMD followed with K2 cpus that were so much better value for money, the we all remember AMD Athlon cpus, then the Athlon x2, they completely dominated intel and nobody in their right mind would go anywhere near intel. then intel took over. The balance shifts in cycles, it's the same in gpu market, one minute you have nvidia dominating, the next minute you have AMD. If anything, it's been intel who have been asleep. Sure they still hold the crown, but at least AMD are trying to come with something new. Sure, bulldozer was a nightmare, but piledriver is an improvement. you never know, they might stumble upon something really good in the near future. It's happened before.

Go look at AMD and their stock prices/company value. There Isn't going to be some magic flip around again. Bad management has all but run the company into the ground.

not where I live I could get a 4670k for $20 bucks more than a 8350. 199 vs 179. 3570k for 189. a 3770k is 249. the little bit of money you save really is not worth it for less performance and higher tdp for me

It happens. Remember how awful the hd 2xxx cards were? And hd 3xxx? Then they naked it with hd 4xxx cards.

The difference here is more severe 8350 = £140 8320 = £110 4670k = £200 3570k = £180 3770k = £280 You yanks are just lucky.

4 series was good, but even after the 7 series they're still well behind on overall marketshare.

Not luck. Higher population = less tax. Not to mention the companies making this stuff are American.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/99/99142.jpg
Tax rates don't scale with population like that. And not much to do with where it's made, every piece of hardware is more expensive over here in the UK, no matter where it's made. Hell, it could be an English manufacturer and you guys would still have it cheaper over there.

There's very few products sold in the US, that are actually made here. Americans refuse to pay the higher prices that manufacturers would charge. You guys don't see the full price we pay for products. Tax for us varies by state....and in some cases, city/county as well. I know you guys pay a higher tax....but consider what your taxes cover compared to ours....

Yeah, most things are made in Asia. He was talking about cpus though.

Even most CPUs are made in other countries.
