" The dillema was simple enough, Tonga with a 384-bit memory bus equal to using more and thus more expensive 3GB and 6GB GDDR5 parts. " That is BS! How much would AMD really be saving in overall cost to them and the consumer? A few bucks? Glad I kept my HD7950s.

I agree. Almost every single thing people bash AMD for, nvidia has done and vise versa. Both companies do something annoying regardless of what class, price-point, or OS you're using. Both companies do seemingly pointless hardware limitations. Both companies do rebrands. Both companies sponsor games that run poorly on their products. As I say with anyone, pick the brand that does what you need best. Just because GPU A performs better than GPU B in most tests, it doesn't mean A is the right choice for your specific needs and it doesn't mean A is the best value either.
This. Nowadays just looking at some benchmarks (especially synthetic ones) is starting to not be enough.

A few bucks per GPU. They sell a ton of them. I'm not blaming them considering they're having difficulties financially.

This thread is turning into one flame fest pretty quickly. Still I'd stick to the higher bus model, because it was one of the selling points AMD had to offer at higher resolutions, wasn't it?

Why is this thread going they way ti should not go? I mean, really, AMD did not sell a card advertised as "384bit".
People like picking on silly details I suppose.

True, but AMD releases too many GPUs anyway. They wouldn't get so much crap for rebrands if they took out anything with the X suffix and just did a little reshuffling with products. IMO, they probably could have removed all GCN 1.0 GPUs from the R7 300 and R9 300 series.
They seriously need to get rid of all GCN1.0 (and hopefully 1.1) from the next lineup. Lacking proper VSR, Free Sync, and VCE support, the old chips have been repackaged too many times.

I agree completely. GCN 1.0 has no place being in the next lineup. GCN 1.1 might be ok for GPUs lower than the R7 series, but yeah everything else should be 1.2 or newer. I have a feeling the Hawaii GPUs will probably be used for the R9 480 and 480X. Honestly though, they should have been the 380 and 380X. I think they would have been if AMD didn't create the Fury series.
