They must be launching some stupid marketing campaign with pointless '30 years blablabla' badges and some new, affordable GPU that follows the true spirit of AMD's heart and soul etc...

I so much loathe PR. Why oh why did nVidia have to start all that bogus "Chief Scientist" crap so many years ago...? Now, AMD has jumped on the phony PR bandwagon, too. "Scientist"....:bang: I guess people are just getting dumber or else I'm just a lot wiser (definitely older, so maybe that's the problem--when you get older you really do get a bit cantankerous and you lose a lot of your tolerance for marketing BS), but the truth is I've never liked nVidia PR--I've always found it childish and condescending. It's kept me away from their products (with a couple of unfortunate exceptions) since the days of my 3dfx V2/V3/V5.5k. (I've been a *happy* ATi customer since my R300 in 2002--we won't discuss the pre-ArtX ATi products that I always had to return.) AMD, like Microsoft, doesn't need to "reinvent its image" with all sorts of cool, empty buzzwords that at the end of the day don't mean a thing. What both companies need is products, products, products--and good ones of the kind their customers want to buy. I'm pretty sure that calling Richard Huddy AMD's "Chief Gaming Scientist" won't sell a single, solitary AMD gpu. Couldn't they have come up with something a bit more original than borrowing nVidia's hackneyed old line? It's not apparent they thought that one through...Ah, well...See? I'm just an old curmudgeon....
That is not PR, they ARE Scientists.... They have to come up with complicated formulas and architectures and draw up each new generation of gpu's..... It takes a lot of hard work and patience, trial and error....it's not just something that happens over night. Anything like that, which requires advanced equations and problem solving to create something is considered science. Therefore those people involved are scientists. It is not PR bud. Science is more than just medicine. There is nothing wiser about your statement. Science exists in many different fields.

I still have driver issues, they never solved them in the lifetime of my product and of course there will be no fixes anymore. But so long as prices are artificially bloated as hell AMD will always have to be considered, even with poor drivers. Then again I haven't had an nVidia card since the GTX 280 so I don't know how they're doing in the driver department. It's pretty sad that AMD's CPU department is a joke and has been since 2006. I'm not looking for any discussion or arguments, that's just how I see it.

AMD has been around since 1969. ATI (now the AMD Graphics division) has been around since 1985. AMD is 45 years old. ATI would only be 29 years old, not 30. @waltc3 - "Chief Gaming Scientist" is probably a better title for a job position than "Chief of lies"....
Well now they have professional PR taking the stage holding the conference. Instead of that I woudln't mind another presentation held by real scientist like with GCN introduction

I just want to know what "new" product is being announced. Aside from that, I can do without any of the information provided during the "conference"... As for Neo Cyrus, c'mon, you can't blame every single driver issue on AMD. You've complained about every driver that's been released since you got your card. It's impossible to have nearly as many bad drivers as you've complained about without either A.) having a bad card or B.) the issues being user induced. I haven't had as many driver related issues in the last 20 years as you've complained about just since you got your 6970.

To another 30 years of bad drivers. The only reason I have regretted "every" ATI/AMD card I have owned.

30 years of competing with a company that everyone pats on the back for forcing retailers not to stock amd products. I don't know how they've done it but damn good job!

Good old Ati all in wonder pro. That's where it started and ended with me.

30 years eh.... and we're still waiting for a stable driver ๐Ÿ˜€
wow looks like people have a very short memory or suffer of alzheimer :bang: Nvidia 320.18 drivers burning videocards for sure is better than "unstable" drivers.

*ATI to Celebrate 30 Years of Graphics and Gaming, AMD just sinks deeper and takes ATI with it.

What place has nVidia drivers in an AMD thread?

Obviously that 11% increased marketshare they have now is making them heavier. Duh!

That's just temporarily. Don't be so short minded. I indirectly work with pc hardware sales, i don't sell them, but i do test/repair/suggest and all other stuff that people need. So for a comparison, what people choose in my circle (CPU) ~ 95% intel, ~5% AMD, (GPU) ~65% NVIDIA, ~35% AMD. Profitability increase i guess is from GPU department. It's ATI that keeps AMD alive, i really want to see some fight between AMD and Intel, but i guess it's not gonna be soon. I'm not a fan boy. I hate monopoly. ATI(AMD) gpus today are great, and they make a stand. I'm glad that their GPU department does its job. But i keep AMD and ATi seperated.

Wait there's the Nvidia 20years thread who is coming soon lol. Anyway, good old time with ATI: Rage ( Fury: first dual gpu card ) , 9700Pro..

I also remember users on this forum Flashing their 9800pros into XTs. The same thing goes with the x800 series of cards as well. You rarely see this anymore. I seen a few users transform their 7970s into r9 280Xs by flashing. Oh the memories.

I find it hard to believe that AMDs going to celebrate 30 years, just by revealing a mid range GPU. :P
