I use it in games that support it to cap it to my refresh rate because: a. I can't see more frames than my screen's refresh rate b. it saves on power and thus heat and thus noise c. it mostly solves tearing d. it fixes coil whine that happens when the game's menu renders at an insane framerate

Since they do it on driver level, I hope they can do it even better than awesomeness in RP.

Does this fix the input lag that v-sync introduces?

It does not fix it. that input lag comes from fact you have always full frame ready for swap to screen. But it reduces stutter in some cases.

Ubisoft recommend an FPS cap of "30" for that next gen breathtaking cinematic experience. Yeah.. I just went there.. *does gansta pose*

Actually, I just checked, they say THE absolute BESTEST ultimate cinematic experience you can get is when you slam it on 24 FPS or 23.976 for "more cinema!"...
:stewpid:
About time i will say. But this is really particular to laptop. I suspect it control the clock speed, voltage, and funny enough with eDP should be able to control the panel frame sync. Let see if they add it then to desktop gpu's.. ( maybe a little tweak in the registry should show it available on CCC for desktop users.)

Well, some games actually look and feel just fine at 30 fps, they were designed as such. At least for me, I really don't care if it's 60 or 30, as long as there's no significant fps drops, that's what annoys me. I for one welcome this option from AMD, hope Nvidia follows. Unless you have a monitor that can keep up with 60+ fps, the only reason to use all that wasted GPU power is input lag.

I'll be happy if it works as well as RP. If it works better and with Mantle, NOW that will be really interesting.

AMD and Nvidia have had this within the drive for the past 5 years.. I use it on both. Amd with radeon Pro or registry edits Nvidia through Inspector/inhancer

I don't know any game that has a worse experience on 60fps than 30fps. Even on goddamn dark souls that introduces physics problems its a far better experience. Also any monitor that doesn't support 60hz is gonna be like, what? 6 Years old?

How about intelligent fps limiter for Mantle instead

I'm already using this for years with the help of afterburner+statistics server. Works wonders for farcry3+4 for smoothness. Also since these 290's have horrible coolers it helps a lot to keep the noise down and performance up when needed. Only problem is that if you limit to 60fps (for 60hz monitor) you'll always see a tearing line. I hope amd fixed this in their implementation and 100% syncs to the refreshrate.

Well ... if you like to tryout this feature already then just download AfterBurner and under Video capture you can enable the framerate limiter. It is funny how companies like Nvidia and AMD keep 'borrowing' ideas from us.
haha, well, isnt that the case a lot? Big Companys take it and use it, and in worst case scenarios they make money with it, even doh´ it wasnt there idea? work, to beginn with.. anyway, all aside, im glad AMD ads options like that. greetz

It depends, on some games (mostly RPG's and strategy games) I'd rather have solid 30 fps than have it fluctuating between 30 and 60 fps. For me, it's a worse experience (slow-fast-slow-fast...) I actually think Dark Souls works fine @ 30fps. It's just my opinion. I'm talking about monitors with refresh rates higher than 60hz, which aren't that common.

This is something ALL GPU drivers should of had YEARS ago! Being able to cap your FPS in any game, with per game profiles, set render ahead limits, etc. Even if its to cap at 30fps so you can add on more graphical features and quality. I still can't understand how people can't play with 30fps. 60fps is obviously better and more fluid but still 30fps is more than playable.

Yes, I was going to say that as well--this is strictly a power-saving feature for battery-driven laptops--it is not any kind of performance-related 3d-gaming feature for desktops...

*raises hand* Can't play at 30FPS. Not even mobile games. The only game I can play at 30FPS is Pokemon (now on the 3DS).

You'll have to use V-Sync to sync to the refresh rate. That's what V-Sync is there for. That's what G-Sync / FreeSync is there to get rid of.

will it be the same thing like nvidia's adaptive vsync ? or it's just fps limiter ?
