I had an Opteron 144 that would do 3ghz easy peasy. On a good ol DFI(RIP) Lanparty.

That's a 16-core 32-thread processor with 72mb of cache memory on it. Do you want to cause the power grid to fail to test a processor or what? That said, love seeing the performance increase coming, hope there's not many/any caveats. Love my 3950x & my 3700x though, so I'm kinda set already. Not sure if I'll need an upgrade for a number of years though seeing as single-threaded DX 11 draw calls holding games back is mostly getting phased out in favor of Vulkan and DX12. Users of ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 / 4S & MSI MPG x570 boards might want to be real real careful with a beefy 5000 series chip. Any more than a 65 watt model and you might smoke the board like my 3950x smoked the ASRock board 2 months after I upgraded from a 3700x WOOHOO for AMD, 'my hero!' For those upset about the price increase - almost 20% gain in generation is worth the cost. Ryzen 3000 series (and older 1xxx 2xxx GloFlo models) are available in a range of reasonable to enthusiast prices. Can't really find room to complain about much, when there really isn't any game that say a Ryzen 1600 14nm chip cannot run in a playable manner (40fps and above), unless you mod the heck out of it or drown it with physics/AI. Wait for intel's next generation to land and (if it's any good) there might be some mark downs.
