Good job AMD cutting into your own profits by killing your own flagship card after it's only been on the market a week and a half. \facepalm
Did any of you see Tom's R290 review? He put a retail R290X vs his two review samples R290 and R290X, and oddly enough the retail R290X was slower then the 2 review samples and the 780 across the board and just barley above the 770. Could have been a fluke, but we know how shady GPU company's can be, and what they have been caught with in the past.
Now this is interesting off to read this article.

As long as the 290x is priced how it is, the 780 won't e dropped any further. The 290 is looking great for the money though, but AMD are yet again doing strange business and competing against themselves. Also hearing a few conspiracies, but not done enough reading to make my mind up yet.

For those of you thinking the 290X is a worse value, while that might be true to some degree, keep in mind BOTH of these GPUs are down-clocking themselves to prevent overheating. Put a water block on these and I'm sure it'll make the extra cost of the 290X a lot more reasonable. That being said, I'd really like to see the performance difference of these GPUs at their stock settings when the temperature is at 85C or lower. Makes me wonder how much faster these REALLY are. I'd also like to see a version of this sold without a heatsink. The heatsink by itself must be worth around $50, maybe more.

Hey Hilbert, would you mind doing a benchmark run with this card for BF4. Since it would be very interesting how it will deal with it! 🙂 Thanks in advance!
Strangely AMD is winning at all points on BF4. I know it's a gaming evolved title but considering how nvidia was always ahead in BF3 on frostbite 2.0 I would've thought it would be similar with BF4. Less the the 780 comes down to 400$ and classys for 480$ I'm on my way to getting two 290s. Still remind to be seen what the average OC is for these. If they can hit 1200 on the core with good cooling I'll be ecstatic.

Wow for 350€ its a steal, heat or no heat. Now I really wonder how aggressive nvidia reacts to all this.. 780GTX looks like a ripoff now, still even for 440€, nvm that 500-600€? 780Ti..

Yeah 290 a steal, 780 a rip off, whatever.

yes 100 frickin € cheaper, is a steal.

If you were on a budget it wouldn't make much sense to get a 780 over a 290 considering the price difference. If your looking for the best performance each card can give you well right now that belongs to the 780 is worth 100-180$ more though?

lol it's £50 more, big freaking uber PhysX deal.

^^Here in Finland GTX 780 (factory overclocked, custom cooler, three game bundle...) is about 60€ more than vanilla 290.

Yep. It sounds a bit troubling.

You know that you can used a cheap ass NV card as a second card for PhysX, Right? I used my old 8800GTS, got another 8600GT for spare. Wanted one?

Especially if you live in a cold climate you don't have to heat one room at least. Like with the 290X will wait to see custome cards with coolers to make my judgement. Currently Nvidia has the better game bundle IMO. But if the drop the 780 price again sign me up.

^ 450GTS or 560GTX or 640GT 384core/650GTX is enough, more can have negative side effects. http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1768879 Loophole35 Well I would never buy a stock gpu, Im just saying in general its very cheap for what it offers and one can always buy a custom cooler for 40-50€ and still be cheaper then stock 780GTX. Imo bring on custom gpus, once those hit market it will get very interesting.

I still don't trust the whole "the card is fine running at 95C."
You know, the very first thing I remembered after reading AMD's "it's meant to run 5 degrees Celsius away from boiling point" was this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QkyfGJgcwQ#t=61 Oh I love the irony which only time can produce... Nice cards though. Basically AMD is now up to par with what NVIDIA has been offering for nearly 6 months. Admittedly AMD definitely demolishes NVIDIA at the price point.

Jeez, as expected all the Fermi jokes are being recycled. Nvidia doesn't have to do any aggressive pricing because AMD are either stupid or up to something dodgy. The fact the 290x is still more expensive than the GTX780 makes the 290x look like a rip off, while at the same time letting Nvidia keep the same prices. A 290x price drop would of course sort that, but what sort of business strategy is it to force a price drop on your own brand new products??

the only issue I have is that folks are unable to praise amd without poo pooing NVidia in same breath, aren't you guys sick of amd vs NVidia? I know I am.
