Sounds nice, I'll be looking at these and the 8900 Series when launched to upgrade my two 6950's. Hopefully we'll see something by Xmas/New Year that would be nice.

This, if true, may well explain why there have been multiple price reductions to the existing range in a relatively short amount of time.
Inventory clearing I'm guessing.

Original leaks : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fread2ch.com%2Fr%2Fjisaku%2F1347605134%2FID%3AhKcZJDn
Take it as rumor or even not real specs..
Outside memory bandwith... in reality taken in account with 1100mhz boost vs 925mhz on the 7970, outside 2560x1600, add some optimisation and the results should be really close of each other, maybe between 7970 and 7970Ghz ( if we trust theses specs )
SP performance look close, but for DP (not really important on a middle range card ) , we are speaking about 1/16 vs 1/4 DP rate .. ( 25% performance of the 7970 ).
But anyway, this bring little to non info on the HD8970.

Looks good.

I want the "Oland" to come out soon, and to trump the 7970/680 buy 10%-20% in performance, at $499 MSRP (CAN). Fingers crossed.

Looking good, 7970 replacement should be a beast.

Dont forget this card is not set for the next month... the 8970 will be released before and surely not before end of Q4 2012 - Jan 2013.
I dont think AMD plan to release the 8870-8850 before the flagship.

Nice. My relatively new 7950s are already starting to look 'old'. Not to mention the huge price drop after I bought them.
It seems GPUs are the component in the PC that sees larger/faster price drops. I used to think buying a powerful but 'price dropped' GPU was the way to to as far as buying GPUs are concerned. But these days the next generation is always around the corner and takes away all the excitement from the current 'previous gen' purchase. 🙁

I've been fortunate enough to catch some really good deals on my last 2 upgrades - to the point of where I sold my HD 5850 and almost broke even when I upgraded to my HD 6970, and then again when I bought my HD 7970 I only spent about $50 overall after selling the previous card. So, if you time it right and hunt for deals you can sometimes do pretty well with a more frequent upgrade.
*I must confess the only real reason I upgraded the last time was because I ran out ov VRAM in Skyrim. 😛

Looking very good if that is true, should be very nippy and like the even though it's bigger the power consumption is lower, also hoping the pricing is accurate as well.
