That's nice of AMD. Just a suggestion, if AMD even reads this, make a bios/chipset that provides at least a basic boot up, even if it's downclocked or cores temporarily disabled for new/unknown chips and have a bios notification suggesting a bios update

A lot of boards have a BIOS flashback feature, which allows you to flash the BIOS without the need for CPU. If AMD continues this trend of long lasting platforms, I think more and more board manufacturers will include this feature. But yea. Having a universal solution is preferable.

Good guy AMD for those without flashback boards.

A lot of shops offer you a service where they will flash the bios to the latest. It costs some petty cash, but it should be hassle free afterwards.

AMD is working hard to gain users. He's already beaten me.

That’s what you call excellent customer support/service. Good job AMD.

They ran out of the A6 9500s they sent to upgrade the 300 series boards.

That's a good point, but I wonder if MSI is mostly to blame, since they just dropped support for those CPUs. You should be able to use something like the A6 and perform the update, at which point your PC will basically be in limbo until you shut it down and slot in the new Ryzen. Perhaps AMD doesn't want people freaking out that their PC is rendered unbootable with the A6 after the update, so, they chose the cheapest part that MSI supports: the 200GE. On the other hand, I feel like that would be all the more reason for AMD to deliberately use the A6, since they know that the people they lend the A6 to can't use it for anything else.

I'm ordering a 3600 and a B450 Gigabyte Aorus Elite which looks like an amazing board for only 91 quid. Hopefully the mobo is 3000 ready as it says Zen2 supported in the specs. Also looking @ 470X though because for another 10-15 quid i could get a 470 with decent specs.

as an intel owner which for sure would have to change motherboard if I stuck to the brand I can only applaud

That's a very nice offer from AMD. It makes me want to go buy something out of appreciation..... *starts looking at hardware*.

Ryzen 3000 is supported since BIOS F40. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450-AORUS-ELITE-rev-10/support#support-cpu. I doubt that the motherboard will come with the updated BIOS since it was released on 16th May.

gigabytes vrms on this price range are rather anemic the tomahawk from msi seems like a better option if you do not go for absolute max oc ... ((msi lacks offset for the voltage 😏))

I remember on LGA775 you actually had to install the new cpu and update bios with it, otherwise it would show up kinda messed up and windows would fail to boot, and i wasted hours and paste updating it using the old cpu just to find that out of desperation

Well that's nice of you to offer AMD but why all the hoops and red tape to get it

Cause they literally sending customers the working CPU, not some piece of worthless hardware. AMD is not receiving a unit from you, and then sending something back. The hoops are there to prevent abuse of the fake applications and stealing CPUs.

It's a terribly slow process. Called Monday, directed to webpage. 3 days later get email response to send info like lots of pics and receipt (I should have been asked for all that in the initial request). Further waiting, It's Friday, and still no response from AMD. I call every day (squeaky wheel gets the grease), but nothing still (so for me it's a week and it hasn't shipped). They claim 14 working days to send it out, and that's after a week or more to even accept the request. I have read users takings over a month for their boot kits. I think AMD is purposefully slow in order to exhaust the return window on their products.
