Would be a riot if Navi came out before Volta 😀.

Global Foundries reports they won't have 7nm LP in volume production until second half of 2018 - and that they are targeting mobile processors for that node. I don't think we're going to see Navi before 2019, similar with whatever Nvidia architecture is post Volta.

Technically Volta is already out in the form of GV100, the consumer parts are reportedly being launched Q1 2018 because GDDR6 won't be available in volume until Q4 this year.

Maybe they will have Navi ready for tape out by then but from all the news so far on the 7nm process, I would be very surprised if they release sooner than end of 2018 at the very earliest. I suspect a 2019 release for Navi.

If Navi still relies on HBM, at least half a year can be added to any estimation of the product availability date.

I'm surprised to hear that AMD could be ready that early with Navi, but I reckon if they are ready then they would want to launch it as soon as possible because Vega has been a bit of a disappointment and they could do with winning some more sales & putting more pressure on NVidia.

I wonder if we might start to see multi-gpu on Navi, much like Ryzen does with cpus.

amd is a joke ; ) after a long wait for their Vega cards; we saw what happened. lower performance-higher price against green team

No way. Unless they introduce Navi at worse than 7nm process. Hell, I'm not even sure about Vega refresh by that time...

Meanwhile can you please rewrite your drivers from scratch? Ty.

Exactly. Every time the same story.

Lol. Thought the same thing when I read the title. Don't expect these cards until 2Q 2019 if we're lucky and prepare for disappointment.

Polaris>Vega>Navi HBM1>HBM2>HBM3? Fail 1>Fail 2>Fail 3? Hype train left the station again: Expect AMD GPU PR stunts featuring no FPS counter while gaming and locked FPS in adaptive sync monitor comparison.

Oh the useless negativity in this forum.

I'd say there is a chance 7nm is miles away, and they are going to do a tryout at 12nm. It probably won't be a large chip, more of a revamped 580. I would expect it to have 2048-2560 shaders, and be available with a single stack of HBM. ~100-125W. Makes a good trial run. 75W max on 7nm. I would also expect the same config on GDDR5/6. GDDR to go down the product stack, and HBM to go up. Imagine 4 of them on one card a la Threadripper/EPYC (at 7nm).

AMD should probably do this for their current GPU's anyway. 🙂

Leaving the trolling aside, Intel has (again) delayed 10nm. Samsung is close to being ready (I think) and both TSMC and GF expect to be producing by the end of 2018. I'd say Navi will come H1 2019 and 2018 will be just 12nm refresh of Zen+Vega. I think Vega is an amazing card, it was just pushed too far (and power went through the roof) and HBM doesn't make it cheap. Also the lack of competition with the 1080Ti drives people crazy.

Ideally they'd need a 256bit GDDR and 1024bit HBM memory controller at the same time, so they only have one die to produce. They might save the HBM capable/enabled version for 7nm. They have the tech to have 4 CPU die on a single substrate, its not a far fetched solution to imagine the same for GPU's. A larger heatspreader would be much better for cooling for one.

It will probably be as disappointing as Vega.

whoa there cowpoke! i'm among the first to hope this is true...and if this is true this will be one of the best kept industrial secrets ever. 😱 😱 😱 i would not be shocked as much as shell-shocked... i actually made some investments that would be well wrecked if it is true 😳 😳 😳 this would mean GloFlo really had some tech that AMD needed when they sold it. which i doubt unless there was a codicil on the sale, which could easily be true. but color me doubtful. if it is true i will salvage what i can (if i can) of my investments and buy a damn Navi just because i love the idea of it. it would be my first Radeon card since the nineties. and it would, all things considered, be the most expensive card i've ever bought no matter the retail price.
