I'm 90% sure this delay is because of supply issues for the existing products. So - I'm sure the availability of these will be relatively scarce.

They can't even get out 3900X's in volumes or Navi cards, so yeah... What the heck is stopping them? Sick of this shit. AMD= Overpromise under deliver!

Just re-read this, originally understood this to be that threadripper was delayed for 3950x (has been a long day). Shame about the 3950x. Was really looking forward to this in September. Will keep saving the pennies until the monster drops, I really hope its worth the wait after this.

Well, it's finally good to get a timeframe on these products at least. I expect supply of the 3950X will be short, like the 3900X. Threadripper might be a different story, as it's a niche product - what I'm most interested about is the pricing.

What? This is the first from Zen that actually has really been delayed. And what are you talking about Navi cards? If you haven't noticed, they're all over and easily available.

They don't have their own fab anymore. Furthermore, GlobalFoundries suddenly decided they don't want to compete anymore and is thus out of the question. TSMC is stressed by AMD, Nvidia, and too many phone manufacturers, including Apple. There's absolutely nothing AMD can do about the situation anymore, unfortunately. It's too bad they almost went under and had to let go of GF.

Oh, so no 16C Threadripper 3K then? At least that's how I read it, with the other option being >24C released later. Very interesting, and it makes sense as while the 3950X is interesting the cost of good X570 boards to go with it doesn't make much sense if you can go for Threadripper 3K at a similar price. I were personally waiting for the 3950X but honestly this is probably even better, now I get to size it up against Threadripper as well before I make any decision. πŸ™‚

Not surprised because with some Motherboards there are BIOS issues galore. Jayztwocents has an MSI x570 board which is giving him CPU errors and he had to go through like 10 power cycles to get it to POST and boot windows.

I have not. And suddenly everybody needing the 7nm stuff is BS. TSMC has a contract with AMD to deliver certain amount of chips in a month. And this has beeen pre defined already. So there is definetly more going on that "shortage", because of other players wanting in on 7nm. 7nm has been basically on full blast on January of 2019. 7nm was production ready 2018 October. it is basically 1 year old tech by now and yelds are so much better, so there is plent yto go around. AMD is just not prioritizing consumer market. All the 7nm goodies are going for server platform and that includes 7nm Instinct GPU's.

We need Samsung 7nm to jump in and help with Volumes πŸ˜› 1 TSMC is not enough 😎 What we have in 7nm? EPYC TR Ryzen Navi Im glad i've picked up my ZEN2 this month (great CPU BTW) πŸ˜€

Yea sure thing. If that was the case, you wouldnt have a Ryzen rig and over pay for intel.

Unless i'm mistaken, we don't know how many FABs under TSMC are producing 7nm

Conditions that chiplet for 3900X has to meet are more strict than those for 3950X.

It could very well be the demand for EPYC that causes shortages of good chiplets for mainstream platform. No wonder AMD would choose to prioritize EPYC and delay 3950X.
