Feels like too little too late as far as this generation is concerned. Though I suppose these are aimed at people on older AM4 motherboards that will be compatible. This lineup makes some sense as a simple drop-in interim solution that should tide people over for a year or three.

With the 5900x as low as £360 Im more inclined to go for that instead from my 5800x

Dropping a 5700x in place of my trusty 1600 and calling it a day is my plan ... Or 5800x or 5600x or 5600 .... It will all boil down to their retail pricing here I can buy now 323 euros the 5800x and if it was not for the new releases I would have done that already.

It could have been sooner and better, but it's still good.

Weird how pretty much the one non-overclockable desktop CPU AMD has released is one of the few that doesn't come with a box cooler. Though that being said... your screenshot claims it is unlocked.

I think not being OCable is still rumor> Has this actually been confirmed?

Yes if the prices out there are true and the DDR5 prices continue to be high, a 1700 to 5700x swap would be a great deal for me too.

From my experience with those 2, you will have nearly none benefit passing from 5800X to 5900X, the gain of extra core is only an really big charge... It would have been more wise to buy a 5800X instead of my 5900X for my main PC and save money for other thing... but it's done.

I agree. And it´s too bad because the 5700x and the 5600 seem great CPUs.

yes it has 3d cache which is over a good portion of the physical cpu. the whole issue (other than doing it) with 3d fab in cpus is the heat is not exchanged evenly. but they got it to work well enough on a high performance level. i certainly believe the extra cache is a bigger jump in gaming performance than OC anyhow.

yes Kanenas, this is a gift. bios updating x370 to run Ryzen 3 will make a fanboy of every guy with a 6 /7 year old x370. if you are "that guy" buying 5800x3d with gpu just as old as x370, is better than blowing your wad on rdna2 or ampere and gives you the same ballpark level of performance boost. for $450 which ain't cheap, but for gpu's nowadays, it's chump change (for an up to 15% performance boost).

With their new push to add 5000 series support to 300 series chipset with the agesa update coming in spring, I think this makes perfect sense. Sitting on a first, second or third gen Ryzen that you feel is getting a little long in the tooth? Get a brand new 5000 series from a mature process and don't worry about having to buy a new motherboard, new RAM, new CPU and new Windows etc.. Fast and easy upgrade to get you up to speed.

This launch got me thinking. Sell my 3700X and upgrade to 5700X. Does makes sense on a MSI B450 board?

Only if you're being CPU bound in games. If you're never CPU bound during gameplay, you might as well wait for Zen 4 assuming you're okay being mugged by the DDR5 prices. I'm in a stupid situation where I'm actually sometimes CPU bound by my 3900X (even with the Infinity Fabric/Mem Controller at 1900MHz), because games obviously don't leverage that many threads well. Yet there is no 5900X3D, and the 5800X3D might end up costing more than the discounted 5900X. At the same time I don't want to change my mobo since I have a TUF X570, and I don't want to pay the DDR5 mafia fee, so I'm not going to wait for Zen 4.

No just wait for zen4/ddr5 at this point.

Or leaving the x86 arch behind and switch to ARM M1/M2. Each passing day I think about that.

it does with a 5800x3d, 5700 will be great for productivity but no 15% uptick in gaming
