Nice marketing AMD. From reading this article it would sound like the only feature of DX12 is asynchronous compute.
AMD issued a virtually identical promo speech during DX11 introduction. All developers belong to us, huge lead, DX11 time to market, every DX11 game developed on Radeons yadyayada... But more importantly AMD has had a tangible lead in several key areas: mm2 perf/W time to market. 6 years later, things are nowhere near that rosy, but corporate talk remains the same.

which is fine. raj from amd has also said how AMD likes explicit multi gpu over Xfire drivers. if that's also "featured" looks like i can pull my 780ti out of it's box and slide it in to make up my 980ti's lack of async compute performance.

Exclusive partner for DX12? king of wushu ... Where do you get this stuff, linkie? https://developer.nvidia.com/content/nvidia-gameworks-chinas-kung-fu-games All I can find is AMD partnering with Crytek for VR First (Should probably be called 6th of eight πŸ˜€) Remember AMD partnering with Square Enix to deliver Rise of Tomb Rider Gameworks/VXAO/HBAO+? Well that's nothing compared to AMD partnering with Dell and Occulus for VR ready machines. With every single PC that Occulus and Dell are offering being Nvidia/Intel powered: https://www.oculus.com/en-us/oculus-ready-pcs/
I sad prolly for king of wushu, because monster haunter online was nvidia and then switched to amd.. and both games will get the ce 5 update

well you are a bit butt-hurt
Why so? Maybe you are for some reason, because I "dissed" those crappy games? Literally there nothing special listed there, except DeusEx.

Nope.. i just like that dx 12 is finally shaping up, and as for crappy games? war hammer is not out yet and calling them crappy is kinda dumb.. dont ya think?

Oxide makes what rts..pass, that warhammer also something not interesting. Just my opinion nobody said you need to agree, or then call me butthurt for that. Just saying. Im waiting for far more interesting dx12 games, so far its only RoTR (not real dx12) but its a start. Also U4E games and all that..

I really interested to see if CA will do the right homeworks, in RTSs games like total war games a low overhead API with proper multi-threading support could be a big deal.

Mmmm ... Gimpcronus or asyncgimpcronus ?. How we called ? guys

Same goes with Starcraft 2. 2v2 endgame battles have severely low FPS, more than 2v2 endgame battles are unplayable. Arcade games in general tend to become unplayable fast.

SC2 has some problems but not game breaking if you set some graphic options to high(as almost all online games).Ultra textures is nonsense for this game and shadows not over high setting, because is a Dx9 game on old engine,as usual. πŸ™‚ Anyway, after almost 1 year after Win10 we dont have a single true Dx12 game.Maybe Deus EX MD or Total War: WARHAMMER will be.

Ofc he likes explicit multi-GPU over Xfire... AMD will be finally able to forget all CFX nightmare support and point finger to game devs in DX12. AMD wet dream. Microsoft is already pointing finger to game devs after the first games without multicard support on their constraining Windows Store :
Microsoft's Mike Ybarra refuted the claim that the Microsoft Store prevents SLI and Crossfire from working, saying on Twitter that β€œgames just need to support it,”
http://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-promises-to-improve-the-windows-store/ LOL

I agree. I have no interest at all in the other games and the AMD DX12 showcase/benchmark tool called AOTS.

"and Radeon exclusive features like asynchronous compute." MILK IT!!!

I know that you hate AMD from bottom of your heart. But Async is Async. When intel brought Nehalem in 2008 to market, it was successful only because entire HT had it's debut with P4 in 2003 (even while P4 was considered as quite bad). And there was already a lot of software supporting this technology for Core launch. Including Unreal Engine. If 2008 was 1st time intel brought HT to market, we would wait to like 2012 for proper adoption. And 2011 Bulldozer would not look as badly as it turned to be. But it remains fact, that HT once supported by compiler is superior to AMD's Clusters in Bulldozer and later. Idea behind HT is nearly same (if not same) as idea behind Async execution for GPUs. At this moment in time, you have chance to decide if future of GPUs goes Bulldozer way of brute force, or HT way with Async doing more with less. HT is here from 2003, that's over 10 years, intel likely does not know better technology to beat this thing they have. In 2015 we get to look at same thing for GPUs, and company which actually supports it is bad guy. Maybe everyone with i3/i7 should just disable HT, because doing more with less is evil.

I only hate AMD horrible driver support and their PR BS like this:
"DirectX 12 is poised to transform the world of PC gaming, and Radeon GPUs are central to the experience of developing and enjoying great content," said Roy Taylor, corporate vice president, Content and Alliances, AMD. "With a definitive range of industry partnerships for exhilarating content, plus an indisputable record of winning framerates, Radeon GPUs are an end-to-end solution for consumers who deserve the latest and greatest in DirectX 12 gaming."
If that means AMD is finally doing something ("supporting" $$$) to have some leverage with game devs/game publishers to compensate the HUGE Nvidia Gameworks success in borking AMD performance... ...That's good! But if it's only another PR BS operation, well you should know the spokesman background. The same Roy Taylor said AMD (ATI) was irrelevant and insignificant a few years ago:
No one cares about AMD or its graphics subsidiary ATI anymore. Well, apart from we Brits, that is. Then again, nobody loves rooting for a hapless chump quite like the British, either. At least, that's what Nvidia spinmeister extraordinaire Roy Taylor reckons. Taylor is actually Nvidia's main man for Content Relations Stateside. But he has been kind enough to hop the pond to provide some insight into Nvidia's plans and prospects. Insight such as this: "The UK is the only place in the world where anyone talks about AMD or ATI". To prove his point, Taylor went as far as showing us a graph representing the entire market for GPUs last year, both discreet and integrated. Astonishingly, ATI did not feature at all. Where was ATI among the 366 million graphics chips which had apparently been split exclusively between Nvidia and Intel in 2007? "No one cares," Taylor says.
http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/graphics-cards/nvidia-only-brits-care-about-about-ati-364318 The evident proof i don't hate AMD is that i bought several AMD GPUs after that 2008 "ground breaking" Nvidia PR statement.

haha yes that's the same guy, former Nvidia's flaming sword of truth, is now marketing AGLORIOUS MINISTRY of DEMAGOGY After Baumann leaving, Raja is the only likable person they have at the forefront. And he looks to be a decent guy too. AMD should let him lead the way. Because unlike these hired goons, he instills confidence and trust.

Texture quality generally doesn't impact performance almost at all, but you are right about shadows. They slice the FPS heavily when fights occur.

What is a "true Dx12" game? An application runs or not with D3D12 runtime, full-stop. Windows 10 was released on end of July. It more ore less 7 months ago, not a year. D3D12 require a complete re-implementation of a graphics back-end, it is not like 10.x to 11.x where most of the work was automatic re-factoring to see some easy performance improvements. Games take years to being development. Engines even more. I cannot share any tangible numbers and names about how many people of how many different companies sign-in in the DX12 EAP to get early DX12 SDK bits, but I can say you I saw hundreds of them, making the number of interested companies in Vulkan a joke (on the other side having a D3D12 background will make learning Vulkan easier).

And why you sound concerned .nvidia already stated there gpu fully support asynchronous compute.
Yes, and I'm sure they've also stated that they are magical and supported by god and that you should only buy their products. Current gen cards such as the very commonly used GTX 970 are going to get absolutely next level dumpstered in games with heavy use of asynchronous compute. That's a best case scenario in which nVidia don't artificially cripple them ahead of time as a bonus and pretend that was never their intention, again. Otherwise it'll be even worse.

Heavy use of async compute comes with a performance penalty, even on AMD hardware so devs can't crank it up.

Wasnt the nvidia did the same thing with heavy tessellation? Underwater, underlevel, even if it comes with performance penalty it hurts competition more.
