well now, since Intel is still having problems at 14nm (and 10nm is vaporware) they are having TSMC produce their chipsets to ease the bottleneck at their chip fabs. AMD is (honestly) just winning at this point. Zen+ will saturate the market due to availability, gamers will moan about back-ordered I-7's and I-9's...while the I-5 is losing share in Intel's biggest consumer market with pressure from AMD and Qualcomm pumping out next-gen cpu's. every single Ryzen sold is a nail in Intel's marketing strategy, while every sale of Qualcomm's current snapdragon is fueling their determination to win share for mobile cpus

Actually, all AMD's Ryzen CPUs which support PBO can be passively cooled. That's because you can set PBO limit to 45W. It will still behave as PBO (opportunistically increasing clock within power limit). And for those which do not support PBO, you can just disable XFR(2) allowing CPU to clock only up-to AMD's base clock. (And apparent decrease of voltage since CPU no longer clocks as high.) This is actually what I do with my 2400G to limit power usage of CPU part... to have spare thermal headroom for iGPU part as system is small and uses stock cooling.

Very nice low voltage cpus. So many options at this moment in time for buying cpus , everybody wins 🙂.
