Or hot, when you realise how much power they use 😉

Already old question. EPYC with 32C/64T answered this question long time ago.

Some of us still overclock for efficiency... at the expense of 100 MHz of clock speeds :P

Probably not even close to that 28 core 5ghz being cooled by an external chiller unit. It's a workstation CPU, not a gaming one. For gaming 6 and 8 cores are beneficial but most games can still run in just 4 cores. I'd say that for the average user 6/8 cores up to 16 threads is the sweet spot for now.

I have a feeling not all TR owners (or Intel equivalent) are people who really need one regularly. Just like not all sports car owners use the car for sports (or for picking up ladies, whatever might be a sports car's intended use). If you can afford one and feel good owning one, it's perfectly fine to have one. It's not like a TR PC couldn't run games as well, after all, even if it wasn't the absolute best for it. It shouldn't be the worst either, by far.

I still don't see a BIOS update for my board. I hope they don't leave these things to the last minute (we don't want a repeat of the 2000 series incompatibility issues with TR4).

Heard a rumor that sounded more believeble, the 32 c monster would cost around 2300 dollar

That pricing wouldn't make sense. $1500 is right in line for what kind of pricing tier they have been using as of late. $2300 is just some random number that's $300 over value what the 32 core processors would have cost last year at the prices they were selling last year, and this year is much less.

Just curious have any of you people tried running one on Windows 7 ? Just want to see how much better Windows 10 handles a large amount of cores, like over 8 cores & higher. Paper wise I know Ryzen and new INTEL cpu's don't officially support Windows 7 anymore and wanted to know if anyone tried this situation I stated.

Literally I'm waiting on new boards, probably I will go ASRock route if they release the board, just hope so they will release Extreme series, if not then I will decide on features like SATA or how many they will have and PCI_E slots RAM I will reuse my old 96GB although they're are 2133MHz but for my needs or what I do they will be more than enough Waterblock already have from Watercool HEATKILLER and have Bykski TR4 WB Just I will need to decide which CPU, almost bought few weeks back 1950X but I will wait a bit for TR4 2nd gen What motherboard do you have ? Hope this helps Thanks, Jura

I have a MSI X399 Gaming Pro Carbon. I'm not keen on replacing my board as it's adequate for my needs, nor do I want to replace my cooling system (custom loop with monoblock). I could use some more RAM, but waiting for better prices or a sale. I'm still not entirely sure if I want to get a TR 2, but want to at least have the option. There hasn't been a BIOS update for this board since last year.

To be fair, if you're buying a processor with 32 cores with that big of a package, I don't think you're worried about power usage lmao.

Eh, maybe not, but still. Every little bit...
