No surprise there...

Everything is going in right direction. Not that many understand language of numbers. There was panic yesterday with stock market before AMD even gave out numbers. And for sure none of them heard Q4 webcast. Magical thing on selling under price is that there has to be someone who buys it on other side.

What is the right direction? By next year Q4 their revenue will be under a billion dollars. Both the PC and Console market did extremely well this Q4 and yet AMD still lost ~$350m And it's not like they have some radical new thing in the pipeline that's going to shake the industry. The profits on the iGPU stuff isn't impressive and their new ARM core is a standard ARM design that isn't even competitive node wise. Plus, they just lost three of their top executives. I mean they are obviously doing something way wrong here -- it's not like Nvidia is having these problems and they should arguably be in a worse situation. Like honestly I knew AMD's situation was dire but this is like really bad for them.

Any loss is bad for a company. It's especially bad for a company that has been continually losing money for almost a decade. Sure, it could have been worse, but any loss is bad. AMD really has nothing "exciting" coming out any time soon. Even their upcoming graphics cards are really just more of the same. AMD's marketing department has been nothing but an empty hype machine for several years now which is actually doing more harm than good. You can't keep promising the world, while delivering next to nothing. They desperately need to deliver something worth buying else all AMD is going to see is more losses until the company is gone.

Language of numbers... Goodwill impairment only done at the auditor's request; most likely their IP valuation was overstated due to outdated/useless tech at this point in the game. Creates a more realistic valuation of the company. Inventory write down: Never good. Means the market does not think you have anything in your inventory worth its manufacturing/production cost. The up side, hopefully this means that the resulting reduction in COGS will create a high enough gross margin. This was a long time coming. Previous CEO did not have the guts to take the onetime hit to get it in the past and move on. Numbers are not in the right direction but the company is. Any further write downs will not be a good sign. 2015 will show if the death bell has rung.

For 2015, AMD will be riding on GPUs and entry-level, mobile-grade processors. They have nothing for the desktop market until 2016 if the rumors are even close. That in itself is a bad sign since they'll be relying on 2-year old products to carry them through a 3rd year.

The write downs are, in a certain way..., the best part of their annual results because they only happen from time to time on extraordinary circumstances. The main problem is that the revenue is decreasing and the margins are so thin that they can´t make a profit on their products! And they are expecting the revenues to keep falling, if i´m not mistaken. And like others said, they don´t seeem to have products in the pipeline capable of turning this around... AMD is in a very tight spot...

Awful for amd. This is a sinking ship.
