Funny thing is that 3950x will beat 9980x even in gaming. Intel has nothing on AMD besides higher pricing.

I'll take higher pricing over performance any day! Wait a minute... uh... ๐Ÿ˜•

Even if the scores are off, we don't know until September, can't deny its less than half the price of Intel counterpart.

well im definitly saving for the 12 cores 24 thread, and if we can really get that 200 mhz oc on boost like advertise on x570, we will get more than 6000 in single thread score, ryzen 3900x will definitly be good gaming cpu, ill wait for reviews and blackfriday and good buy my 7700k at 5.05 ghz

At this point is Threadripper needed?

Point being the 3950 is on a platform tier lower. And my comment is directed towards the muti-core performance.

This is more then funny. Now only left AMD gpu with performance like 2080ti for 700โ‚ฌ. ๐Ÿ˜€ And there is something what Intel has and AMD dont - security issues.

TR offered quad channel memory, AM4 "only" dual channel. Imagine 3rd gen EPYC. ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes I understand all this was just pointing out that this desktop CPU is raping the competitors HEDT CPUโ€™s at less than half the price. Intel is in some trouble, but at the same time 3950X MAY cannibalize some future TR sales.

I've felt the same way. If AMD decides to release 16-32 core TRs, that will start to cannibalize their lower-tier Epyc sales. TR is now in this really awkward middle-ground. That's probably why they don't have any official announcements for it, because they're trying to figure out how to keep the platform alive.

Didnt they said how zen2 can go up to 64 cores? R9 3950x 16/32 TR 3990x 32/64 Epyc 64/128

2066 socket on x299 chipset is going mainstream this fall. There will be an updated X299 chipset but both will support new Cascade Lake X CPU for 2066 socket. Don't ask me where I got this info. Updated x299 chipset will bring better support for USB, M.2, Wifi 6 among other tweaks and such. No PCIe 4.0 but that's not a big deal. PCIe 5 is coming sometimes next year. New CPU will yield better clock speed than Skylake-X so you will see 18/36 part running at same clock speed as 3950x with a bit more agressive Turbo Overclocking. Good news the current 2066 socket motherboard owners will be able to use this new CPU with the BIOS Update which will be released sometime in September. Intel is going to offer extra 2 cores for about same price. New CPU will bring ~3% IPC improvement and tweaked memory controller supporting @DDR4 3000 Here is the pricing for this fall... $999 - Cascade Lake X 20/40 $799 - Cascade Lake X 18/36 $699 - Cascade Lake X 16/32 $599 - Cascade Lake X 14/28 $499 - Cascade Lake X 12/24 $399 - Cascade Lake X 10/20 $299 - Cascade Lake X 8/16 $199 - Cascade Lake X 6/12 LGA 1151 is basically going away. A new 10gen 10nm processor scheduled for Laptops and Notebooks will go ahead as planned and then next year Cascade Lake X will be replaced by 10nm counterpart. New Workstation line is on socket 3467 which we saw with Mac Pro. I'd say wait cause AMD is about to face a major kick back from Intel this fall. AMD cannot release no more than 16/32 setup on AM4 because of the nature of their design. So Intel is going to offer 20/40 for $999 or better say 2 extra cores for the price of 3950x. By the time 3950x is out in the stores we will see new CPU and new pricing for 2066 socket.
This sounded almost legit until I saw those prices. Now it's plain bullshit.

So what will TR offer over the 3950x, quad memory and more PCIe lanes.... but how many 60-80? more cores, and what else, maybe lower temp with the size of the IHS... but not sure if its make it worth having a 16 core still. I would expect to see them start at 24-32-48, maybe a 64 core down the road.
