Let's not forget that there is a rumour about naming them 5xxx instead of 4xxx, shall we?
Other than that 4.8GHz boost with that roughly 15% IPC increase could do more harm to Intel than ever.
I cannot wait to see these Zen3 CPUs.

Not surprised,we saw what xt line can do and it's barely any higher than early 7nm
it's much, much more important for them to get the latency down than frequencies up.

It will be much more interesting to see IF speed increases, and perhaps full bandwidth both ways (which for Zen2 it is not the case, Write is slower than Read, which makes core jumping very inefficient)

It's only 100Mhz more on the boost than the 3950X. Hope it has some other improvements to increase performance.

Rumours only but very promising. AMD has steadily improved since Zen 1 and trend seems to continue.

That doesnt say anything as max turbo is extremely opportunistic and low load. What matters is frequency behavior under relative stress. If running CB for example still leads to ~4ghz runs the only uplift will come from the 8 core CCX instead of quad and whatever IPC improvements have been achieved.
Hopefully there are real core clock / IF speed improvements too but I wouldnt hold my breath.

Intel dreams will be crushed if this thing reaches 5ghz.

4.8ghz on a Zen 3, 16 core cpu that will be available to the public in the upcoming months? Intel might wanna start rethinking their road map at this point. Or their management.

thinking of getting the ryzen 7 4700x 🙂

That is crazy for an ES sample. They must have had pretty high confidence the engineering sample would hit those clocks. If they really did move to 8-core CCX's with a 32MB cache that should get the latencies way down as well. This should finally be very good attempt to take Intel's performance crown away.
