Age/Occupation/Location?

I am 33 years of age, got a degree in history and religion. Full time dad, with two sons, one is 10 the other 1 week. I work as an agent, to help the unemployed find jobs or upgrade their skills.

How long have you been a member of Guru3D forums?

Since October 2003

What did you first come here for?

I had trouble with my old Geforce 4 Ti4200, it ran on the PCI bus, so I googled for help and Guru came up.

What do you mainly use the system for?

I use the rig for pretty much everything, work at home, gaming and surfing. The girlfriend uses it for selling her designs and shop till my wallet cries.

How much did you spend on the rig?

About £1000

How often do you update/buy a new rig?

When ever there is a need, and the wallet allows it.

What components are used?

AMD 64 3200+ Clawhammer running at stock speed cooled by a manually controlled ThermalTake Venus 12. 768MB Infinion DDR400 ram (256x3) running at 3-3-3-8 on a Chaintech VNF3-250 motherboard, latest bios. A-Open Aeolus Geforce 6800GT running stock speed cooled by a Zalman VF700-CU, Cobber VGA Cooler. For sound, well lets say due to domestic issues I use an onboard soundcard with a pair of basic headphones - I have a newborn son. For storage I use a Western Digital Caviar SATA 80GB 8MB cache HDD, and on occasion a 40GB IBM DeskStar 7200RPM HDD. I have a standard Samsung CDRW/DVDROM optical drive. All in an anonymous no name cabinet with two 80MM case fans, sucking up a 400w generic PSU. This nice hardware is making pretty pictures on my Samsung SyncMaster 172x TFT LCD display, running digital of course. I have a Logitech cordless wheel mouse on a clear/frosted Icemat.

Why ATI or NVIDIA, why Intel/AMD?

I have had both nVidia and ATI cards, been happy with both types. The reason I got the geforce 6800GT is due to a very good deal. I was considering getting an X800XT, but they are quite expensive here in Denmark. I have had Pentium CPUs before, but changed to AMD after some time. I had a 333MHz Pentium a long time ago, well before I became a Guru. I stick to AMD because I know them best.

Does the system work as expected?

It does. Never had any serious problems. But then again, I dont push it too far.

What's the best part of your rig?

My Geforce : )

What do you dislike?

The CPU cooler, it is way too loud and does not cool well enough for that level of noise.

Modifications?

I have two minor mods. First I have fixed the ThermalTake control dial on the cabinet front. I simply made a hole and mounted it (Used the dial which comes with the cooler, it fits a 3½ drive bay.) Second I have used the fan from the CoolerMaster VGA Heatpipe CoolViva VHC-L61 to cool my HDD. I used double sided tape to hold it in place
