Final words and conclusion

AMD filled up the price performance bracket in almost any area with the release of the R7-260 graphics card. Overall this product is a notch slower compared to the R7 -260X but despite that you can still play games if you are conservative with your choices in image quality settings and higher resolutions. The pricing is fair though.

AMD Radeon R7-260

The R7-260 is a fun, almost entry-level product that is going to allow you to game at 1280x720 to say 1600x1200. If you stick to these resolutions then you may apply good image quality settings. At an MSRP of 79 EURO + VAT (or $109 USD) however it is a fair deal. You'll be looking at perf in-between say a Radeon HD 7770 and Radeon HD 7790. It also would be a really excellent HTPC card quite honestly. The small PCB footprint and cooler would even allow Mini-ITX setups. Then again at 75 Degrees C it does run a bit hot for such a setup. Overall though, a fun little card but don't expect to game properly at 1080P.

Concluding

AMD inserted a pretty nice series of graphics card in the past few months. They all are priced fair, and these prices all are based on MSRP, meaning you can deduct another 10-20% of that price in the weeks to come (once volume availability kicks in). For this refresh we had hoped to see a little more boom-boom-pow in terms of additional performance. We feel that both the R7-260 and 260X could have been a notch faster. Overall though these are really handy card to play a simple game and excellent cards for a HTPC. Kick in an extra few tenners and you'll notice there are much better alternatives available when it comes to performance though. The Radeon R7 260 could become more interesting once Mantle and TrueAudio are implemented in some games. But yeah, it is an okay and decent card for the money.
