The Verdict

As you can see, there is a good measurable difference between the cooler passively and actively cooled. I can not recommend passive cooling as 62 degrees C for Core 2 Duo is really on the high side. We did this test at a 21 degrees C room temperature and for example, if in the summer that temperature would be 10 degrees higher ... then so will the cooler temperature, which then approaches dangerous levels. On the other side, if you have a closed PC with excellent airflow, it might just be enough.

I, however, do recommend you to use one of the fans. Speaking of fans, we tested the SX1, XL1 and XL2 on the Cool Scraper cooler, and as our results show; the difference really is marginal. I recommend you to go with just the stock cooler as it's very price-worthy, silent and offers excellent results. The installation is okay; it's not the most practical way to install a cooler, plus you have to remove your mainboard to be able to install the backplate. But this is fairly easy to do for us Guru's, right? Also I must say that the fans as tested today not necessarily need to be on that cooler "perse" as they make really great and silent case fans. Consider that as well please as they are not that expensive at all.

I must say that I'm really pleased with this product from BlackNoise. Other than the sheer size of the product, there's nothing negative to report here. For those that wonder; the difference between the stock Intel cooler and the Coolscraper is not big at all; yet the Coolscraper certainly is much more quiet than the stock cooler.

This cooler plus SX1 fan sells for nearly 50 EUR, and while that is not cheap I can recommend the product whole-heartedly. It will offer you good cooling versus a very silent noise level. That, and the fact that the cooler just looks aesthetically pleasing, makes it a great product.

A good cooler for sure, as it does what is advertised to the fullest; highly recommended if you hate noise.
