BIOS overclocking

Overclocking and tweaking then. If you have the desire to tweak and overclock, always invest in good hardware (MOBO/PSU/Memory/Cooling), the cheaper motherboards often are not well tuned or have broad-spectrum features for enthusiast overclocking. Also get yourself a good power supply and proper processor cooling. Overclocking with a more core processor (doesn't matter if that is Intel or AMD) is more complicated than you expect it to be. Overclocking multi-core on a high clock frequency is relatively easy to do the job, but is managed best from the BIOS and dependant on the chipset.

The H370 chipset is limited in many ways for tweaking and overclocking, there's a max. 2667 MHz clock frequency on the memory. Also, the processor (even K model) is limited to the maximum multiplier (47 for the 8700K). Nothing, however, will prevent you setting the Turbo on all your processor cores to 47, this can be achieved without added voltage, however.

We did just that, unfortunately, the proc kept throttling down back to 4300 MHz on all cores. We tried it all through including power states. The clock would not remain fixed and throttled down to processor defaults. Which kind of is mandatory for the motherboard manufacturers, as stipulated by Intel. So for tweaking and overclocking, you are far better off with a Z370 motherboard.
