ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 WIFI6E router review -
Product Showcase
With the Asus Router app, the setup process is a breeze. You may also configure things using a web browser, the router will default to 192.168.50.1 and allows for more customization once you're within the app or that web interface. You may also immediately configure a mesh system if you already own AiMesh-compatible routers. For the APP-based install, connect the WAN of the router, power it up, wait until the LEDs are active and login to the ASUS WIFI SSID with admin/admin.
The unit has its antennas raised up (non detachable). To the left at the top, a mesh for venting and then the Asus logo. That one is RGB lit, we recommend you disable it as routers are active 24/7 and, as such, the (RGB) LEDs do consume power.
Two USB connections are thus available for sharing storage or printers. You can direct the antennas at any angle, to squeeze out that last bit of performance in an upper floor corner. An ethernet cable is included as well as the power adapter (doh).
Looking at the sides of the unit you can see the antenna connectors for wireless networking, note that high power antennas on all routers are restricted to transmitter power regulations, this is a very expensive multi-band router, ergo there are eight of them.
Located on the side corner are the standard buttons for quick connect and LED. Both can be turned on using a physical button on the router, or in the GUI or app interface.
The GT-AXE16000 has a series of LEDs that indicate LAN/WAN activity and power status, although they can be difficult to see. The router's USB ports can be used to connect to external storage devices of any capacity, and it supports FAT32 and NTFS file systems. The router also supports UPnP and DNLA streaming, allowing content stored on an external drive to be played back by network media streamers.
