Noctua offers Free Mounting Kit LGA1155

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Noctua let us know that owners of older Noctua CPU coolers who wish to upgrade to the upcoming LGA1155 socket will be able to obtain the appropriate NM-I3 SecuFirm2 mounting kit free of charge. Recent models such as the NH-C14, NH-D14 or NH-U12P SE2 already include the NM-I3 mounting kit and are fully compatible with LGA1155 out of the box.

"We're determined to provide the best possible support to our customers and we've sent many thousands of NM-I3 mounting kits free of charge to users who wanted to upgrade to LGA1156", says Mag. Roland Mossig, Noctua CEO. "With Sandy Bridge just around the corner, we're pleased to announce that we'll extend this offer for LGA1155 users. Everyone owning an older Noctua heatsink that doesn't support LGA 115x out of the box will be able to upgrade to the new socket free of charge!"

Due to the spacing of the mounting holes being identical on LGA1155 and LGA1156, Noctua's NM-I3 SecuFirm2 mounting kit for LGA1156 also supports Intel's upcoming 'Sandy Bridge' platform. The following Noctua coolers already include the NM-I3 SecuFirm2 mounting system for LGA1156 and can thus be used on LGA1155 mainboards without any upgrades or modifications: NH-C14, NH-D14, NH-C12P SE14, NH-U12P SE2, NH-U9B SE2.

Users of older Noctua models that don't include the SecuFirm2 mounting system for LGA1156/1155 can obtain the NM-I3 kit free of charge on Noctua's website in order to make their heatsinks compatible with the new socket. A proof of purchase (photo, scan or screenshot of the invoice) of both a Noctua CPU cooler and either a socket 1155 mainboard or socket 1155 CPU are required. The NM-I3 mounting kit is compatible with all Noctua retail coolers since 2005 and is also available in stores at a low service charge.

GeForce GTX 570 expected next week

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

A product folder from Palit reveals the GeForce GTX 570 will be released on December 7th. This card features the GF110 GPU with 1 SM disabled, it has 480 CUDA cores, a 732MHz core, 1464MHz shaders and 1280MB GDDR5 clocked at 3800MHz. The card features a 320-bit memory bus, 152GB/s memory bandwidth and a TDP of 225W. Pricing is rumored to be under $400, while performance is expected to be similar to the GeForce GTX 480.

"As expected, the GTX 570 features GF110 with 1 SM disabled, a total of 480 CUDA cores - much like the GTX 480. Like the GTX 470, the GTX 570 has 1 MC disabled, for a 320-bit memory interface mated to 950MHz 1280MB GDDR5. The memory bandwidth is 151.9 GB/s, well below the GTX 480. However, the GTX 570 is clocked at a healthy 732 MHz core, 1464 MHz shaders. Power consumption is rated at 225W. Surprisingly, the GTX 570 requirements lists a 6+6-pin power connector configuration, which indicates NVIDIA may be counting on its power monitoring circuitry. This could limit overclocking, however."

3DMark 11 gets delayed

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

It is now confirmed that the release of 3DMark 11, planned for Tuesday is delayed to an unknown date.

Over the weekend we made the difficult decision to postpone the launch of 3DMark 11 by a few days.

Our aim is that 3DMark 11 should provide accurate, reliable and consistent results from the start. With that goal in mind we are taking some extra time now to fix a couple of difficult bugs rather than patching the benchmark immediately after launch.

It might take a day, it might be a week, but either way we'll be in touch again soon to confirm the new launch date. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Inno3D GeForce GTX 580 OC edition review

Review 567 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

We review the Inno3D GeForce GTX 580OC. Despite a very high price tag the product seems to become a nice success. As such directly at launch several models based of this SKU where already announced, e.g. the regular clocked models, factory higher clocked models, liquid cooled models.

This OC edition, in particular this is a reference GeForce GTX 580 that has been clocked faster to 820 MHz on the core where it also welcomes a nice bump on the overall memory frequency.

Elpida Smallest 2-Gigabit DDR3 SDRAM

Memory 234 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Elpida announced that it had begun sample shipments of its new 2-gigabit DDR3 SDRAM (product names: EDJ2116DEBG and EDJ2108DEBG) geared for use in consumer electrical appliances. The new SDRAM is the industry's smallest 2-gigabit DDR3 that supports an x16-bit I/O interface.

The new 2-gigabit DDR3 SDRAM is well suited to consumer electrical appliances. It meets the high-speed DDR3-1600 (1600Mbps) standard likely to become the mainstream memory speed standard in 2011, uses energy-efficient 1.35V for the DDR3L-1333 memory speed and is compliant with DDR3-Plus (seamless BL4 access) for upgrading the performance of consumer electrical appliances.

Compared with Elpida's existing x16-bit I/O products for use in consumer electrical appliances the new SDRAM uses 30% less current and its low 1.35V operating voltage increases its attractiveness as an eco-friendly DRAM.

Product Features:

  • x16-bit/x8-bit I/O
  • DDR3-1600 high-speed access
  • 1.35V operation for DDR3L specification
  • DDR3-Plus (seamless BL4 access)
  • Data output buffer can be set to low output (RZQ/5)
Target applications:
  • Digital TV, BD players, BD recorders, set top boxes and other consumer electrical appliances
  • Tablet PCs
Following sample shipments mass production is expected to get underway in the first quarter of CY 2011.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 SE

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Gigabyte presents its GeForce GTX 460 SE, this model is equipped with a dual-fan cooling solution and has a 730MHz core, 1460MHz shaders and 1GB GDDR5 clocked at 3400MHz.

The special inclined dual fan design effectively minimizes the flow of turbulence between two fans and enhances heat dissipation of hot area right underneath each fan. By unique design, WINDFORCETM 2X even enlarges air channel on the graphics card vents and creates a more effective air flow system in chassis. This special design helps heat dissipate quickly from GPU. In addition, WINDFORCETM 2X is equipped with 2 copper heat-pipes which strengthen the speed of heat dissipation.
