Wow that's a lot of storage. Researchers from Hitachi and the Japanese New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) have developed a new HDD technology for storing up to 3.9Tbit per square inch. The technology paves the way for the creation of hard disk drives with a storage capacity of up to 24TB. More details will be presented next week at the 2010 Material Research Society Fall meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.

Essentially, when you are recording on a magnetic material, bits (a collection of magnetized particles) are laid out end-to-end on disk platters. Storage capacity is generally increased by decreasing the size of the magnetic grains that make-up data bits. As the magnetic grains became smaller or arranged more efficiently, more data could then be stored on the disk. The Japanese researchers have developed an ultra-high density patterning technology based on a self-arranged phenomenon of polymer materials. The materials allowed for the formation of accurate magnetic structures sized just 10nm.

The technology, when applied to current density HDD (with areal density of about 500Gbits / square inch), will result to an 8-fold increase in the recording density. This means that we could see HDD with capacities of 24TB in the future.

We feel that more memory is rather important, and in that trend memory manufacturers have started to increase the density of DIMM modules. Where 1 and 2GB DIMM modules have been the standard, we now see very good progress in 4 GB DIMM modules.

Today we'll do things a little different, G.Skill designed a 8GB low voltage DDR3 kit (2x 4GB) that can be set at 1600 MHz yet still run a CAS latency of 7. And that is truly interesting because the denser the ICs get, the higher latency typically gets.

Crytek have announced (thanks VG247)  a brand new FPS franchise called Warface. Little is known about the game at this point but it appears to be a multiplayer online title aimed mostly for the Asian marketplace.

PowerColor is preparing to release a AMD Radeon HD 6850 graphics card that features a passive cooler, as TPU reports.

"This will be a completely silent cooling solution. The company is currently evaluating a new design that makes use of a large GPU heatsink featuring an aluminum fin array that ensures the card occupies just two expansion slots, while adding surface area by propagating to the top of the card, in an L-shape. The heatsink uses no less than five heat pipes to convey heat to the fins. PowerColor's card will be branded under the company's "SCS3" line of silent graphics cards. Based on the 40 nm "Barts" silicon, the AMD Radeon HD 6850 features 960 stream processors, and 1 GB of GDDR5 memory over a 256-bit wide memory interface. Availability and pricing is unknown as the design is yet to be finalized."

Gigabyte is creating some hype with a new viral marketing campaign. Gigabyte prepping 3 new models under new gaming series and they all based on Intel X58 chipset. According to side new models use matte black PCB and some new design figures. Gigabyte gives aggressive names to that models; Assassin, Killer and Guerrilla.

Today we released a recommended update for all Internet Explorer 9 Beta customers via Windows Update (KB2448827). This update includes stability fixes for the beta build. It is not a new Internet Explorer 9 Beta build. Another update shipped today (KB2452648) resolves issues between the IE9 send feedback feature on 64-bit machines with Windows-Live-Essentials 11. These updates apply only to Internet Explorer 9 Beta.

Epic Games, makers of titles like Gears of War 2 and Unreal Tournament 3, have released a new trailer featuring the enhancements made to that other thing they make: the Unreal engine. In related news, Epic has also released the November 2010 edition of its Unreal Development Kit. The kit--which is available for free here.

A 14cm is fitted on the ceiling and a 12cm is fitted as air intake in the front. Some isolating padding where the PSU is placed prevents resonance. And there are ventilation holes (and room for a fan) in the bottom of the case for air-intake and the thick rubber feet keep these elevated from the floor to make a smooth airflow possible and eliminate resonance. Noise absorption
The Nexus Prominent cases are fitted with some noise absorption material we really love. It is a premium dense foam/rubber-like material with great characteristics. We fitted a flat layer on the panel behind the motherboard and a nice wave foam layer on the other panel. These materials surely hush your system.

Toolless installation
Practically all components can be mounted inside the case without tools. PCI-lots and Optical drives are fixed with toolless solutions.

HDD-tray with vibration absorbers
And especially the HDD trays are very convenient. You just need to squeeze the tray to be able to pull out the hard disk or place it back. Plus the HDD's mounting is fitted with rubber to reduce resonance and vibration. However we did make sure that the HDD's have grounding with the case.

PSU-bumpers
Some nice padding on the areas where normally the PSU would hit the chassis. We have attached some patches on the bottom of the case and a little frame around the PSU opening at the back of the case. These 'bumpers' are made form soft foam/rubber-like materials and absorb and vibration caused by the PSU and prevents this resonance to be transmitted to the chassis.

TechPowerUp found a couple of slides that detail AMD's chipset plans until mid-2011. The charts reveal several new chipsets like the 980G, 990FX, 990X, 970 northbridges and the SB950 and SB920 southbridges.

"AMD's upcoming "Bulldozer" architecture based processors that use a new socket type, the AM3+, are slated for Q2, 2011. To complement its launch, AMD will be launching the 9-series chipset series, consisting of four kinds of desktop chipset. The lineup starts with the AMD 990FX, the high-end 4-way CrossFireX-ready chipset, geared for high-end motherboards. Next up, is the 990X. This discrete graphics chipset is also ready for CrossFireX, but has just 16 PCI-Express 2.0 lanes to spare for graphics, platforms based on this will feature two PCI-Express x16 slots which reconfigure to electrical x8 slots when both are populated."

We review the NZXT Phantom. Absolutely stunning in many ways as the design is simply great, the features are grand and then the extras still need to kick in.
