This process ensures that various Wi-Fi 7-enabled products, such as routers, smartphones, and laptops, adhere to the newly established Wi-Fi 7 specifications. The launch of the Wi-Fi 7 Certified program represents the culmination of the Wi-Fi 7 standard development by the Wi-Fi Alliance. This achievement, initially projected for the first quarter of 2024, has now been realized.

Prior to this certification, Wi-Fi 7 compatible products were available from manufacturers like Netgear and TP-Link. However, many of these products were based on preliminary drafts of the Wi-Fi 7 standard. The compatibility of these early versions with the finalized Wi-Fi 7 standard and their potential certification status remain unclear. It's important to note that non-certified devices might still operate effectively with certified Wi-Fi 7 devices, but their interoperability is not assured.

Wi-Fi 7 introduces significant enhancements in wireless technology, including higher speeds and doubled bandwidth compared to its predecessors, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E. Key features of Wi-Fi 7 include 320MHz channel widths, support for the 6GHz frequency band, and Multi-Link Operation (MLO). MLO allows simultaneous connections across 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands, improving data throughput and reducing latency. The initial batch of Wi-Fi 7 certified devices is listed in the Wi-Fi Alliance product finder.
