VIA Labs announced the launch of the VIA Labs VL830 USB4 Endpoint Device. USB4 is a significant improvement to the USB architecture, allowing for the coexistence of several data and display protocols on a single high-speed link with a potential aggregate bandwidth of 40Gbps.  The VL830 supports both USB and DisplayPort and is fully compatible with ThunderboltTM 4 and USB4 systems. It is also backward compatible with previous-generation devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones that enable DisplayPort Alternate Mode over USB Type-C.

"The VIA Labs VL830 is the pinnacle of our expertise producing USB Type-C, USB Power Delivery, and USB 3.2 products, being an industry leader in time to market, and contributing to and participating in standard development," Terrance Shih, Business Development Director, VIA Labs, Inc., said. "USB4 is based on ThunderboltTM technology, and we're thrilled to bring these capabilities to a wider audience at a lower price point."

The VIA Labs VL830 USB4 Endpoint Device provides up to double the video bandwidth of DisplayPort Alternate Mode over USB Type-C and supports up to one 8K 60Hz high-dynamic-range monitor and many USB 3.2 Gen2 devices simultaneously, depending on the host system's capabilities. When used in conjunction with a DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport hub, it is possible to accommodate numerous 4K or high-refresh-rate monitors while still utilizing rapid SuperSpeed USB data transfers.

The VIA Labs VL830 integrates a USB 3.2 Gen 2 hub with five downstream ports and a DisplayPort 1.4a output, allowing it to take full advantage of USB4's full 40Gbps capacity. VL830 is available in a small FCCSP 10x10mm package.

The VIA Labs VL830 is already experiencing early acceptance in a variety of product categories, including USB-C docking stations, multi-function adapters, and others. VIA Labs expects to begin distributing the VL830 to select partners in Q4 2021.
