The latest technology demonstration utilizing Unreal Engine 5.3 showcases a detailed dune desert landscape, which leverages the capabilities of the Nvidia Geforce RTX 4090 graphics card. This demonstration represents a progression from a previously showcased jungle environment, focusing on a desert setting this time. The MAWI United team developed a 400 square kilometer quarry area within a dune desert landscape, purportedly an extension of their Dune Desert Landscape project initiated in January 2023.

The demonstration employs Unreal Engine 5's Lumen and Nanite technologies to render the environment with high fidelity. Assets within the demo utilize 4K resolution for base color textures along with normal and auxiliary textures to enhance detail. The rendering complexity is highlighted by the use of 1 million polygons for palm tree models, 1 to 2 million polygons for rocks and boulders, and over 4,000 polygons for various plant life.

Rendering such intricate graphics necessitates high-performance hardware, with the Geforce RTX 4090 being recommended for optimal performance indicating the level of investment required for hardware capable of supporting this level of detail. While the tech demo is not currently available for public download, access can be purchased for $3.99 USD plus applicable taxes, assuming the necessary hardware is already in place.
