At the NVIDIA GTC 2024 conference, SK Hynix showcased its latest addition to the consumer solid-state drive (SSD) market, the Platinum P51 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD, marking the company's first entry into the Gen5 NVMe SSD series. This device stands out due to its integration of PCIe Gen5 interface and 238-layer TLC NAND flash memory, promising significant performance enhancements. The Platinum P51 SSD, which follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, the Gold P31 and Platinum P41, employs a proprietary SSD controller. This capability stems from SK Hynix's acquisition of SSD controller manufacturer LAMD in 2012, enabling the company to design and implement its own controllers.

SK Hynix announced that the Platinum P51 will be available in three capacities: 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The SSD boasts impressive performance metrics, with a peak sequential read speed of up to 13,500 MB/s and a sequential write speed reaching up to 11,500 MB/s. However, details regarding the release date and pricing of the Platinum P51 series remain undisclosed.
