The Ryzen 7 8700G, part of AMD's Ryzen 8000G (Phoenix) series, demonstrates its capacity to utilize high-speed memory effectively in recent evaluations. Tests conducted with the processor paired with DDR5-9000 memory indicate a noteworthy improvement in integrated graphics performance, particularly in AI benchmarks. A South Korean overclocker, known as safedisk, achieved this performance by overclocking a G.Skill DDR5-7800 C36 2x16GB memory kit to DDR5-9000, enhancing the data rate by 15% from the base configuration. This overclocking effort pushed the memory's data rate 73% beyond the Ryzen 8000G series' officially supported DDR5-5200, with the memory controller within the Ryzen 7 8700G maintaining stability at these elevated frequencies.

The testing setup, as documented on the overclock.net forums, maintained the Fabric Clock (FCLK) at 2,500 MHz, and adjusted the DRAM voltage to 1.65V, a level considered high for regular use but viable for demonstration. Although no real-world benchmarks were provided, the overclock yielded significant bandwidth improvements, with AIDA64 benchmark results showing 79 GB/s read, 126 GB/s write, and 105 GB/s copy speeds, and a latency of 52.2 nanoseconds. Further analysis was conducted using Procyon AI Inference and GIMP with the Stable Diffusion plug-in, assessing the impact of memory speed on AI performance. The Procyon benchmark, which tests a variety of neural network models, revealed up to a 15% increase in AI performance when comparing DDR5-7600 C38 memory against the baseline DDR5-4800 C40. The GIMP benchmark showed less variability, with only a 4% improvement in image generation time under similar conditions.

This performance enhancement underscores the Ryzen 7 8700G's robust integrated memory controller and its ability to leverage fast memory for improved AI and graphics tasks. However, it's important to note that such high memory frequencies may not be attainable or recommended for all Ryzen 8000G processors in everyday scenarios. The retail pricing for the Ryzen 7 8700G is set at approximately $329, with lower-tier models such as the Ryzen 5 8600G and 8500G available at $229 and $179, respectively.
