Qualcomm has released its Snapdragon X processor, tailored for lightweight laptops, targeting the thin-and-light notebook market. This Arm-based processor is set to compete with Intel and AMD's U-segment and possibly P-segment processors, as well as Apple's M2 and M2 Max SoCs found in recent Macbooks.

Windows 11 and Chrome OS laptops utilizing this chip may provide similar performance and battery durations. Qualcomm recently provided a performance review of its Snapdragon X Elite chip. The chip underwent benchmark tests against widely recognized processors, including the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, Intel Core i9-13800H, and Apple M2. Qualcomm's data suggests that the Snapdragon X Elite aligns closely with these processors in terms of performance.

At a private event organized by Qualcomm, reference systems were presented to a select audience. These included System A, fitted with a 15.6-inch 4K display and an 80W TDP chip, and System B, with a 14.5-inch 2.8K display and a 23W TDP. Benchmark tests, specifically in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme and GFXBench Aztec Ruins (1080p, Normal), displayed the Adreno GPU of the Snapdragon X Elite having a performance edge over the integrated GPUs of Ryzen 9 7940HS and Core i7-13800H. Notably, the Adreno GPU showcased better performance metrics across the board, except against Apple's M2 chip, which edged out System B but was surpassed by the 80W setup. There was a narrow performance gap between the two systems with different TDPs.

An analysis by the Geekerwan YouTube channel assessed the gaming capabilities of the Snapdragon X Elite using the "Control" game as a benchmark tool. In the 3DMark Wildlife Extreme benchmark, tailored for graphics evaluations, the Snapdragon X Elite recorded 39.2 FPS. For comparison, Apple's M2 Max reported 60 FPS, Apple's M2 logged 40 FPS, Intel's Core i7-13700H noted 22.5 FPS, and the Radeon 780M, paired with AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS's iGPU, registered 28 FPS. In the "Control" benchmark (1080p, minimal graphics settings), the Snapdragon X Elite reached 53 FPS, closely trailing the Radeon 780M's 56 FPS and leading against Apple M2's 43 FPS.
