MSI is set to release a firmware update that introduces overclocking profiles for the Intel Core i9-14900KS, enabling the processor's Performance cores to reach 6.4 GHz, an increase of 200 MHz over its standard boost clock of 6.2 GHz. This update facilitates higher performance without the need for manual tuning, providing a more accessible solution for achieving enhanced processing speeds. The Core i9-14900KS, essentially a selectively binned version of the Core i9-14900K, offers slightly elevated clock speeds, thus reducing variability in performance outcomes commonly associated with processor overclocking. Intel is expected to position this chip at a higher price point due to its premium specifications and guaranteed higher performance threshold.

MSI's forthcoming firmware update will include a "P-Core Beyond 6 GHz+" feature, which not only enables a single-core boost to 6.4 GHz but also sets the all-core boost frequency to 5.9 GHz. An alternative profile offering a 6.4 GHz single-core and 5.8 GHz all-core boost will also be available, catering to users with different cooling capacities and performance requirements. This adjustment is significant, given reports of the Core i9-14900KS consuming up to 400W under standard conditions.

The special-edition Intel Core i9-14900KS, part of the 14th Generation Raptor Lake Refresh lineup, is anticipated to be compatible with all existing LGA1700 motherboards equipped with either the 600- or 700-series chipsets, following minor firmware updates from motherboard manufacturers for optimal compatibility.

With rumors suggesting a release date around March 14, detailed reviews and analyses of the processor's capabilities are expected to emerge shortly thereafter. Not here at guru3D.com though, Intel did not sample us.
