In December, Yotta confirmed its plans to procure additional GPUs but did not disclose specific details about the budget or the models of hardware. However, a recent interaction with Sunil Gupta, Yotta’s CEO, revealed more about the company’s strategy. Gupta stated that the order would include nearly 16,000 NVIDIA H100 and GH200 AI chips, with the procurement expected to be completed by March 2025.
Yotta's decision comes amidst a growing focus by NVIDIA on the Indian data center market, especially in light of US sanctions affecting business operations with enterprise customers in China. Reuters highlighted Yotta’s background as part of the real estate group owned by Indian billionaire Niranjan Hiranandani. Yotta, which operates three data center campuses in Mumbai, Gujarat, and near New Delhi, is a key partner for NVIDIA in India.
The report also notes that major global technology firms like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon are escalating their investments in cloud services and data centers within India. During the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, NVIDIA executive Shankar Trivedi indicated that Yotta aims to launch a new NVIDIA-powered AI data center by March 2024 in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, a major tech hub in the region.
This move by Yotta is indicative of the expanding scope and scale of data center operations in India, as well as the increasing reliance on advanced AI technologies to enhance data processing and cloud computing capabilities.
