Recent updates from Linux LLVM patches have revealed insights into AMD’s RDNA 4 GPU architecture, which includes two entries designated as GFX1200 and GFX1201. These upcoming GPU cores are projected to be integrated into AMD’s Radeon RX 8000 series of graphics cards.

The LLVM-Project documentation suggests that the GFX1200 and GFX1201 identifiers correspond to the anticipated Navi 44 and Navi 48 GPUs within the RDNA 4 architecture framework. The GFX1200 identifier was previously linked to the Navi 41 SKU, indicating a possible reassignment or evolution in AMD’s naming scheme. Amid speculations about the discontinuation of AMD’s high-end Navi 4X line, the GFX1200 and GFX1201 appear to be successors initially planned for the now-defunct Navi 4C chip.

  • GFX101X = RDNA with Navi 1x
  • GFX103X = RDNA 2 with Navi 2x
  • GFX11XX = RDNA 3 with Navi 3x
  • GFX115X = RDNA 3.5 with Navi 3x
  • GFX12XX = RDNA 4 with Navi 4x

AMD seems to be realigning its product offerings, with an increased emphasis on the high-end and mainstream segments of the market. While the company has traditionally reserved the enthusiast label for products exceeding the $500 price point, featuring top-of-the-line Navi x1 chips, the RDNA 4 architecture may represent a shift in this trend.

The anticipated launch of the RDNA 4-based next-generation Radeon GPUs is set for 2024, as per AMD’s disclosed roadmap. This launch is expected to utilize an advanced semiconductor process node.
