How long does it usually take from when this information is seen in Linux LLVM and they go on sale? or does it vary a lot?

I would not hold my breath waiting for them, that's for sure. There's zero indication that I've seen so we could be 6 months off or more.

From my recollection, it's never been longer than a year. AMD often tries getting barebone hardware functionality into the kernel and drivers pretty far in advance, presumably so people can use somewhat outdated software and still get some semblance of functionality. This is where Linux's monolithic design is a double-edged sword: so long as you have a new enough kernel, drivers "just work" without having to do anything at all. Otherwise, you're going to have a bunch of hoops to jump through to maybe get something working. Since not everyone is using the latest kernel (especially servers), AMD knows they have to get functionality in as early as possible so by the time the product hits the market, there's a good chance that it will work out-of-the-box. It might not be fully functional, but it will work well enough for the user to update without much trouble.

I sincerely hope something that is at least 50% faster than a 6800XT will be available for around $600 (or less, if possible). The 7900XTX performance is nice, but the price increase is also significant, making perf/price not much better than the 3-yr old chip design I use now. No longer expecting +100% between upgrades, unless waiting for many, many years, but at least there should be +50% without a matching +50% increase in price.

Rumor is that 8800XT will be little little slower than 4080 but faster than 7900 XT so target is N31 performance at 500$.
