Meet the ATX 3.0 compatible power supply

Today, we’re putting the new Phanteks Revolt – a 1200W power supply on our test bench. It is the first ATX 3.0 compatible unit from that company that we looked at. It has been prepared in collaboration with Seasonic (which shouldn’t need an introduction in the PSU department). What stands out in the crowd is mainly the… lack of the provided cables in the bundle. Users can select modular cables in various colors through collaboration with CableMod, a well-known cable brand. There are two color variants, as white is available, besides the tested black color. As for the wattage options, you can find the following:

  • 1600 W (which has an 80 Plus Titanium certificate)
  • 1200 W (which we’re checking, it's an 80 Plus Platinum)
  • 1000 W (80 Plus Platinum, like 1200 W variant)

Phanteks Revolt has ATX 3.0 and PCIe Gen 5.0 compatibility. What does it mean in practice? Mainly, it’s the implementation of the PCI-Express 5.0 generation’s power connector. These new power supplies carry the latest 12VHPWR power connector designed to deliver up to 600W of raw, unhindered power to the graphics card. Compared to ATX 2.X, which supports high load peaks but does not define a maximum above the nominal power of the power supply, ATX 3.0 represents clear target values - specifically, the PCIe connection for the graphics card must allow load changes of up to three times the power consumption. Additionally, all PX series models/wattage offer three “traditional” PCIe 6+2 connectors for complete compatibility with the graphics card. Under the hood, we have the Seasonic Prime platform (also used, for example, in Asus Thor II, which we also checked) - which offers ATX 3.0 compatibility and excellent performance. Phanteks Revolt 1200W is an ATX power supply with a semi-passive mode. This time, it’s a 1200 Watt model (in black) with an 80 PLUS® Platinum certificate, meaning it’s 92% efficient at 50% load @ 115 V and 94% efficient @ 230 V. It is crucial because less consumed energy goes to waste (at least not in a significant amount), and that should affect your energy bill. It is essential in these wicked times, where energy prices skyrocketed and won’t become cheaper. Speaking of the fan – it’s 135 mm with PWM control that allows lower noise and keeps thermals in check. It’s possible to turn off the fanless mode. Despite its powerful capabilities, the Revolt maintains a compact size, measuring just 160mm.

The 1200 Watts available in the reviewed unit should be enough for most users; even an i9 14900K combined with the Geforce RTX 4090 shouldn’t be a problem. Phanteks Revolt is built with 100% Japanese capacitors and other premium components to achieve 80 Plus Platinum Certification; thus, it enhances reliability and durability. The unit is compact, measuring 160 mm x 150 mm x 86 mm. A 12-year warranty backs Phanteks Revolt. The MSRP is 249.99 USD. Okay, let’s check out this PSU from Phanteks, shall we?
