Final words and conclusion

The Lamptron H101 is not the cheapest solution out there. You get a ready-for-action unit that has a 10.1” IPS panel with FullHD (1080p) resolution. It seems great at first glance. For an aftermarket solution (as opposed to something homemade), it’s relatively fresh. We don’t recall seeing any similar products presented recently by a major brand. Lamptron is trying to find its niche, and thanks to cooperation with Aida it should succeed in providing a really accurate monitoring solution. The HM101 is rather compact on the desk, and you can easily carry it around with you to wherever you need it. We didn’t put it into the chassis (although Lamptron says it can be done), as the 10.1” format is rather too big for most cases on the market. However, there is also a 7” variant, which would be fine for that scenario. Power users might prefer the 17” version (well, I’m ancient, so I remember using a regular CRT or LCDs monitor of this size).

You’re not limited to the PC, as you can use the HM101 also with other devices (e.g. as a secondary monitor in travel), and the USB cable provides enough power to the unit. Speaking of which, it’s good that you don’t need to have a separate power supply because they always create more mess.

As for the software part, the actual features are mostly powered by Aida64. The setup is quite intuitive, and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to enable the monitoring screen. It might take some more time to adjust the display exactly to your needs, but luckily there are some pre-made layouts provided on the pen drive that is included in the package. This makes it much easier to tweak which parameters you want to display. You’ll find everything that you need in the bundle: HDMI and USB cables, a sturdy desk stand, a USB stick with Aida64, and a manual. What more would you want? Well, for sure an in-chassis mounting system, and also a mount for the back of the LCD screen. Aaah, the display is an IPS panel, so the viewing angles are really good. Summing it up, we’re giving this product an ”Approved” award, because of the features that it brings, the good Full HD IPS panel, simple powering solution, and extensive h/w data monitoring options. Why not “Recommended”, you might ask. Well, not everyone needs to have a real-time view of their hardware readings. If you want to have all your monitoring data at hand, it’s going to cost you. The Lamptron HM101 might not be the cheapest product of its kind, but it’s very user-friendly, and it can really bring a breath of fresh air to your desk.
