Specifications & Features

P2U38-2T PCIe SSD

The P2U38-2T PCIe SSD is tied to a PCI Express 3.0 x4 slot interface. You will spot several mSATA units with two layers of PCB with separated mSATA clusters, all powered by their own controller. These single SSD clusters are then tied towards an LSI RAID controller. Combined this PCI-Express SSD unit can then reach performance in the 3 to 4 GB per second range. Meanwhile, the random 4K IOPS performance is hovering at 200,000  (inputs/outputs per second) in our measurements. And that is way above advertised.

The P2U38 is offered in three models, a 1TB, 2TB and even 8TB edition is available. Depending on volume sizes the performance differs a bit, our 2TB unit is rated at 3600~3900 MB/sec on Sustained Read Speed while writing at 2800~3100 MB/sec. In IDLE this product utilizes 6 Watt, under hefty load that number however can run towards roughly 30 Watts.

The unit is rated at an endurance of 8 years rated at 2TB/day (we checked they really claim Terabyte), which are huge numbers.  Add to that a life expectancy of 2 million hours and yeah, you don't need to worry about much when building even a server. All in all we'll have quite a bit to talk about, albeit this article will be more a showcase of 'possibilities' opposed to something that you can actually buy in the stores.
