The Build

It is time to gather some gear and build us a PC. I am not going to go all extraordinary with extensive and custom liquid cooling etc., we'll be building a typical system that you guys would build at home. Also, I really like mini ITX :)

The Torrent RGB is known for its cooling capabilities, which are a strength. A whopping five of Fractal Design's new Prisma fans are included in the box. Three of these fans are Prisma AL-14 versions, each of which is 140mm in diameter and is installed on the bottom of the chassis. AL-14 fans have a rated airflow of 103.85 cubic feet per minute (CFM) and a noise level of 34.1 decibels (dB) (A).

The motherboard mounting tray is laced with cutout slots, which makes it simple to move cables from one side to the other of the motherboard.. All of the holes are conveniently located towards the corners of an ATX motherboard after it has been mounted into the chassis, allowing for easy access to all of the components. For easier access to the chunkier motherboard and PCI Express power connectors, a few larger holes are strategically placed towards the front of the case. These openings are lined with rubber to assist keep wires on the other side of the case out of sight while also decreasing edge abrasion.

But I am less thrilled with the torrent's cable handling. All the essentials are present - adequate space behind the motherboard tray, Velcro ties, and a hole in the PSU compartment for cable slack – but it's the fan- and RGB cables that irritate me the most. There is also no RGB hub, but the wires do daisy chain, allowing you to link them all together without the need for any additional devices. Having said that, I do recommend that you distribute the devices between two A-RGB ports on your motherboard in order to avoid overloading a single 5v connector, as five huge fans plus an RGB strip near the power supply may be too much for a single connector otherwise.

Of course, you can swap the fan placements for radiator positions if you choose. Radiators based on fans ranging from 120mm to 360mm can be installed in the front, while radiators based on 140mm fans can be installed in the rear. Furthermore, because the Torrent can also accommodate 180mm fans, you can store a 180mm or 360mm radiator in conjunction with such fans. You are restricted to radiators up to 360mm or 420mm in diameter with 120mm or 140mm fans at the bottom of the page. If desired, you can mount a 120mm or 140mm radiator on the back of the case.  We'll use a Mini ITX MSI motherboard with a stock AMD cooler. Ehm, well heck yeah it fits :)

As you can see even if we'd go big, there is plenty of clearance to mount everything. You'll see plenty of grommet holes and that gutter and lots of gaps and space to tuck stuff away. PSU's BTW easily fit.

The one problem I have with the chassis is that I miss out on that slight bit of extra space on the mobo rear side for cable routing. It's okay but ample enough to work with.
