Performance System Memory: DDR3 Memory read and write

Performance System Memory: Memory Read test

So for memory we had some good stuff to work with, Intel has a couple of certified partners for memory to get some sweet XMP 1.3 profiles going.

One of the memory specialists offering XMP optimized memory DIMMS is GSKILL with their newly released Ares series memory. Their memory can be stock clocked at 2400 MHz. We received a quad DIMM dual-channel kit optimized for Z87. And what you are about to see is quite staggering in terms of memory bandwidth. For everything that you see below, we use either default BIOS settings, and when overclocked simply flicked the XMP profile in the BIOS to on. It's that simple.

Now with the regular memory at 1600 MHz versus AIDA memory tests we already see extraordinary good performance hovering at the 24-25K marker. Unusually high to be honest, but hey ... these are the numbers, we write them down as measured. Also check out the memory performance at 2400 MHz, now there the CPU was overclocked to 4600 MHz, though.

Memory Write test

We did the same with the memory write tests. Amazing default 1600 Mhz performance. But once we activate the XMP profile the write perf jumped to 37K when the system is overclocked to 4600 MHz (and the XMP profile enabled). 35K MB/s on writes.

So if you like to go a little more crazy, once you overclock and enable an XMP profile (should you have compatible memory) then you get stuff like shown in the charts above with the 2400 MHz results (in the upper charts which is very impressive of course), this is the GSKill Ares series kit at 2400 MHz (SKU F3-2400C11Q-16GAB). These ready to go kits are optimized specifically for Haswell / Z87.
